Travel Forums Asia Visas for Asia

Hi, I'm planning on spending a few months in Asia and looking for some advice on visas. Do I need to secure them before I leave the UK and are there time limits? I was wanting to make up my route as I go along but now concerned that I may have trouble getting into countries if I leave it until arrival?

You need to list the countries you plan on visiting. Most SEA countries offer visa on arrival for UK citizens. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore will give you at least 30 days, free. Cambodia is $20 for 30 days. Laos is $35 for 30 days. VietNam is the exception. If you fly in, they do have a visa on arrival system. See my blog. If arriving via land border, you will need to buy your VN visa before arriving at their border. Phnom Penh is the fastest, cheapest place to buy your VN visa. BKK & Vientiane will also sell you a VN visa, just costs more.

Good luck with your planning.

Malaysia don't only give 90 days to British citizens, I guess they give it to any European. And if you enter Sabah and/or Sarawak, they'll give you a new stamp in your passport...

And Brunei Dar Es Salam is free as well (at least the visa...)

Well, not any Europeans. But certainly to European countries in Schengen zones and those with bilateral visa agreements, as Malaysian passport holders also enjoy a visa-free travel to these countries for up to 90 days. ;)
