Seeking information on Russia,town Smolensk

I'm seeking more information and advice on 1 of the Russia Town called Smolensk. Whoever has been visited,stay over there before or current working over there might willing to sharing with me?
I would like to find out how is a place over Smolensk in Russia, how's the life style, standard of living (is it very high), jobs opportunities, nice place to visit etc?

Hello there.
I have been to Smolensk (if it's the same one that you talk of). It is a city of some 400,000 people about 200 miles NE of Minsk (Belarus). I was there three years ago, just for a long weekend. What an incredibly wonderful place. It is, as I remember being told, one of Russia's oldest cities, dating back well over 1,000 years.
The people are incredibly friendly and the local wines are very yummy.
I know nothing of this address though.
The language in Smolensk is the same as in Moscow, but the dialect is very different and quite hard to understand.
