Hi there,

just a very quick question.. I've searched the net but wan people's opinions..

What's the best way to get from Khao San to Thonburi station in Bangkok ? around 7 in the morning.

How much is a reasonable price for a tuk tuk/taxi there ?

cheers

Thonburi Train Station right? Because there are 2 stations in Thonburi. Another one is Wong Wien Yai Station. I would suggest you to take a cab there earlier than 7. Not sure about the price. But I predict it will be less than 500Baht.

A meter taxi is almost always cheaper than a tuk-tuk unless you are Thai! Wave a MOVING meter taxi over and tell the driver to use the meter. Meter starts at 35 baht, make sure you check. Avoid parked taxi cabs because they more often want to bargain the fare. I would be surprised if the fare were more than 350 baht because you can get from the airport to Bangkok for around 350 and that includes a 50 baht surcharge plus tolls.

Always insist on the meter when taking a taxi in Bangkok and the ride will be cheaper!

You can ask your hotel desk clerk to write in Thai where you want to go to. Then show that note to the taxi driver. When I am alone taking a meter taxi I never put my bags in the trunk. I plop them on the back seat next to me and drag them out when I leave the car - then I pay the driver. This way a driver doesn't take off with your goodies in the trunk. If there are two of you then one of you gets out and the other stays in the car until the bags are out of the trunk. Then you pay for the ride.

What is your final destination by the way? Just curious, will you be taking a train or just need to be in that area by 7 a.m. If it is a tour to the River Kwai you can also get a tour from local travel agencies, they will pick you up at your hotel and return you there at the end of the trip.

Good luck.
