Mekong Methinks

Next month I'm doing circuit HCMC - Siem Reap - Phnom Penh - Chau Doc - HCMC.
Am leaving Chau Doc on a monday morning and need to be back in HCMC that thursday evening so can catch early morning flight to Phu Quoc the next day.
That gives me about 3-4 days cruising the delta.
Should I do Can Tho, My Tho/Ben Tre or would I have time to do both?
How long to get from Chau Doc to either of these towns by boat?
Any recommendations on what to visit or do in the delta?

At first, I have some comments about your itinerary: HCMC - Siem Reap - Phnom Penh - Chau Doc - HCMC. It seems waste your time and your money to transfer.
If you have no business in the first time stop in HCMC, I think your Itinerary should be: Siem Reap - Phnom Penh - Chau Doc - HCMC, then fly to Phu Quoc Island.

With 3-4 days cruising Mekong, your boat can pass all the destinations. But you should visit only Can tho or My Tho. In my opinion, visit Can Tho is a better choice .

Why not head straight from HCMC to BenTre ( well, if you wish to see those candy making places,etc) and then settle for a night in Can Tho ( you will probaby arrive late evening). Lot more to see, followign day, in Can Tho than in My Tho (such as Cai Rang/Phung Hiep floating marts; Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary near Thot Not, great seafood at Ninh Kieu Wharf area, to name a few) and then you can head to Chau Doc enroute PP. It will be late evening by the time you get to PP. So, next day head to SR. Once done with SR, you can bus back to HCMC. There is bus direct to HCMC. But it will mean back tracking. Maybe you could try PP-Battambang and then to SR by boat across Tonle Sap. This way , you will not be back tracking.. But then, tiem may be a factor for you.

Qantas doesn't fly Australia to Cambodia so I'm having to go through HCMC using my frequent flyer points.
Spent 3 days in HCMC back in 2002 so will just take it very easy for 1 full day before flying onto Siem Reap.
Have taken both your advices and will do 2 nights in Can Tho instead of My Tho, but may have one night stop in My Tho on way back to HCMC depending on how the trip goes.
Have booked 3 nights in SR, 2 in PP, 2 in Chau Doc then onto the delta.
Only 10 days to go and I'm outa here
