When I was on my way home a little while ago, I had every intention of coming on here and posting a message moaning and ranting about what a lousy day I've had so far... Not that it's anyone's fault from here, of course, but I thought that to tell you all about it would maybe, somehow, make me feel better...
All that happened is, I get up extra early today... It being a friday and all, I have a lecture at 10.00, which means I have to leave my house at 8.30 if I want to get to Uni on time... It's a round trip of around 80 - 100 miles and involves me having to catch 2 trains and 2 buses and takes, if the trains are on time, around 4 hours... (I usually have to wait at least 30 minutes for my train to come home, and that's if it is on time!)
Anyway, I left my house and arrived at Uni only to learn that the lectures for today were CANCELLED!!!!! I lost valuable sleeping time!!!
Well, before I posted this message I thought I'd read throo some of the responses that had been made to various other threads since I last looked at TP, and answered a few, too... That was enough to make me feel better without the need for me to post this post...
So... IGNORE THIS POST!!!
I like to not obey the rules so I thought I would look at this post. It turns out you're ranting about something I used to rant about daily when I was in school! Although I wasn't as far from my Uni as you are from yours, but it took me about an hour and a half with public transpo (sometimes I'd take 3 buses and the subway, other times it would be 2 buses and the train).
Brought back memories of cursing the damn train and bus schedules that don't let you coordinate your travel times. Freezing in -30 degree Celsius while the bus just decides to whoosh past you for no good reason, leaving you to wait another 10 minutes... Public Transportation here is nasty sometimes. Almost never reliable, curiously on the coldest days... Seems like Murphy's Law is in effect here! Anyway, just to say I've been there! I understand... and am hating the Public Transpo in Wales for you!
Hee hee, I'm stubborn so I ignored your title
When I was in CEGEP (the two-year limbo period between high school and university in Quebec) my classes were ALWAYS cancelled. Not that it's such a bad thing really, but having to shower, get dressed and trudge out in the -40 degree weather, slush and snow seeping into your boots - not fun. As students walk into school from the bus there's a screen set up to list all the cancelled classes, and you can bet that on the coldest, yuckiest day your class will be cancelled. Then you have to turn back around and hope that the bus is still there so you can go home. If not, you have to wait 30 min for the next one.
Ahhhh the good old days!
Hahaha Tam, you must have posted when I was typing mine.....stubborn people of the world unite!
Awwwww, thank you...
Altho you seem to have missed the point(s)... Firstly, I wasn't ranting, but expressing a prior need I had to rant had TP not made me feel better before the need took a firmer hold... And secondly, altho public transport isn't all it's cracked up to be, I 'put-up-and-shut-up'... Had the need taken the firmer hold I expected it to and TP not made me feel better beforehand, my rant would have been about my cancelled lectures and the valuable sleeping time I lost!! (So in other words, I was kinda thanking TP and its members for diffusing my anger and frustration even before I needed to express it!)
But I must say, -30 and -40 degrees...
I guess, really, I have it easy in comparison... The weather does get quite lousy here on times, but only ever at a minimum of about -5, and even that is quite extreme... I'd much rather travel for 4 hours for no reason in temperatures of about +5 as it is today, than to have to travel for even 30 minutes at those temperatures for a reason.... I don't like the cold, nor the rain... Brrrrrrrr!!!
(As I was posting this message, I received the email of the other responses, too... But this is really in response to Tam's reply... )
But, really tho, -40... does it really get that cold..? I'd have to re-locate, I think...
Ah! An opportunity to rant about the #18 bus!
So I walk to the bus stop - which is about half a very short block. And on the way, I watch as four half-empty #18 busses go by - zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom... they all speed through the same #%&%@$ green light.
And then! Then! I wait for 15 bone-numbing minutes in that same -40 weather for the next bus! Which is full beyond belief with half-frozen Rosemounters. This happens, like, every second day in the winter!!! What is up with that??
Sorry, Airfix, I've bent the rules of your post, too. But I feel better already!
In response to Airfix, yes it does get that cold here. Wonderfully and miserably cold. Scratch wonderfully replace with disgustingly. And I know I complain about my lack of things to do and about my brains leaking out of my ears but I'm not really that bad... I just went off on my own tangent in my brain and lost touch of what you were writing down! I hated public transpo so much that I just took hold of your travel time and off I was on my rant! So that's that. No taking things the wrong way. Just elaborating on a sentence that was really a secondary one not lending to the main point at hand. Sorry! But that said I still hate public transpo.
So, would I be right in assuming you drive now...?
I wish! If I could afford to buy a car, hmm, I would... maybe. Hahaha, no seriously, I have my student loan payments to worry about so car is UNFORTUNATELY secondary for me right now. It's really money that it comes down to! So now, even though I work 15 minutes away from my house, it takes me about half an hour coming (to work) and 45 minutes going (cause I work on one side of the highway and need to take two buses to get to the other side without killing myself!). Sigh... That said, I should say that I put money aside for travel... hehehe. It seems I'm a sucker for public transpo punishment!
I assume at the time you're finishing up traffic would be pretty bad....can't you just run accross real fast? It would be like running accross a parking lot. Kinda like that old arcade game Frogger. hee hee...HUGS!
