Nationality: Australian
Current Residence: Australia
Purpose of Stay: Study
Main country of stay: Netherlands
Duration: 5 days

Hi, I recently obtained a 6 month student visa for Spain from December 28th onwards. However, I wanted to enter the Schengen area a few days before that, in particular, a few days spent in The Netherlands.

Is this okay or must I wait until the 28th December before entering the Schengen area?

Thanks in advance.

Australian citizen may visit countries of Schengen zone for visit up to 90 days without entry visa, so you should be able to visit Netherlands on this basis prior to commencement of your long term student visa in Spain.

Thanks!

Actually, I called the Spanish consulate to check up on it. They advised me that it was fine to enter as a tourist, and adjusted the date of my visa from the time I actually enter Madrid for the purpose of studying.
