Hi all!

I have just come out of a 5 1/2 year relationship, Im feeling pretty crap :( & want to get out of this country! I have wanted to travel for a long time now, had planned to go with my boyfriend but thats gone out the window! I have no saved money just a £5000 credit card, would it be totally crazy to use my card to fund all of my travelling I would like to go away for at least 6 months & visit lots of SE Asia & Australia. I am happy to slum it & work in Aus. I have no idea about how to start to plan something like this? I have heard you can only travel in 1 direction, if I went to Aus first & worked for a few months to get some money together could I then go to SE Asia? I am also looking for a travel buddy as its all a bit scary & maybe that will help cut costs. I am a bit confused as to what to do, would love some advice.

Thanks

Adiy :)

out of your situation , i would definitely go. but to have some money on the side, not just en cc credit would be better. if u get a job in australia go there and save some money to increase your balance and continue travelling..

Hey Adiy....

Sounds like me last year. Out of a 2 1/2 year relationship, my friend says let's go, I got a line of credit and I was off! I saved some money on the side as well so I wouldn't go nuts with the loan, but I have to say it was well worth it. Gives you time to think, meet new people, get out any type of frustratons you may be having ;)

I send you HUGS! and I hope you have a blast if you do land up going!

Cheers,
Katie ;)

PS: If you don't land up saving much money, try and get a line of credit because the interest rates are a lot better than with a credit card. :)

Hey adiybaby,

Sad to hear of your relationship breakdown, but perhaps it's a good thing in the long run. My advice is similar to other people's advice, and that is, by all means go on a trip (believe me, you will have the TIME OF YOUR LIFE) but, try to save some money beforehand.

You can kill two birds with one stone; i.e. plan your trip and save some money at the same time. Look, you will have such a blast on your travels in SO MANY WAYS that will not be obvious at the moment, that it's worth spending a bit of time (even just a few months) to sort some stuff out and save your backside off in the meantime.

Credit cards are an expensive way to fund your trip. For instance, if your credit card interest rate is around 15%, then every dollar/pound/euro/peso that you spend will effectively mean you are spending 115% of the true cost. So by all means get as much funds together as possible.

But make the most of your situaation, kiss your friends and family goodbye, and go out to that big wide world out there and HAVE A BLAST!
