What's the strangest/most shocking thing you've seen in Customs?
Reading this news item reminded me of arriving at Henowarra Airport, St Lucia (eight years ago).
We were waiting in Customs for our turn - there was a lady ahead of us who had been asked to open her suitcase. Her case was stuffed with dead chickens, still with feathers. (I can only hope they weren't still alive when put into the case).
Have you seen anything strange or shocking?
A lady in front of me got pulled for checks of her hand luggage - this is to go through security to get to departure terminal. When I walked past, I took a peek at her security screen and there it was, a dark circular mass in solid black, not unlike the shape of a typical bomb. Turned out, the lady was carrying a hi-fi/amplifier set thingy and that's just part of the amplifier.
Definitely strange and unusual sight. Not terribly shocking once knowing that's not a bomb.

On my way home from Greece, I was going through security when the sleepy (and generally disinterested) customs official nearly jumped out of his chair. Then all hell broke loose with a number of guys grabbing the young chap behind me. I glanced at the security monitor and saw a gun shaped object on the screen. It seems this lad had purchased a replica gun (which were widely available in the shops as I remember). In his wisdom this lad had decided to take this gun through security in his hand luggage - 3 WEEKS AFTER 9/11 !!!
As the plane was about to leave, the chap got on and sat with his friends just in front of me. His mate asked what had happened. He replied, sheepishly, "I don't want to talk about it". I bet he didn't. I was giggling all the way home. Numpty!
OMG at Appro's story! What thoughtless madness, especially at that time.
Customs officer apparently took (read: confiscated) the umbrella of a lady before me.
Apparently, someone told me there was an incident in a Philippine airline where a flight attendant was bopped on the head with an umbrella, hence they're not allowing these things on airplanes anymore.
