Great to read everyone's plans for New Years....I normally find Dec. 31 pumped up and overrated. Believe it or not i'm not a negative person!! In fact, i'm always up for anything that involves alcohol and music! Barefoot and playing in the ocean is always a nice bonus!
I'm a Canadian working/living in Sri Lanka and my friends asked me if i was returning to Southern Ontario for the Christmas Holidays......I thought about the shopping malls, the cold and snow....then i said no.....I will be off to Phuket (not my choice of islands) to take a sailing course and so will be at sea for New Years!! The unfortunate part of all of this is that i'll be with strangers....that could be a good thing, eh??
So, enjoy your festivities whatever you are doing and be safe!!
P.S. Bon Jour to all my Quebecois friends. I am so embarrassed when I meet a French speaking Canadian because i have lost all of my school french!! I'm fluent in Italian and Spanish but I just haven't been around French speaking people, hence i've lost it!!:

Today, I fly down to Xishuangbanna in the deep south of China (bordering Laos & Myanmar) with my Chinese girlfriend. We'll stay there until Friday 31st December, and then fly back in the afternoon to Kunming; "The City of Eternal Spring".

An upmarket Scandinavian cafe in Kunming named "Nordica" is holding a concert / dinner et al, starting at 6pm. Should be a few "foreigners" as well as local Chinese attending.

About a week later, I fly down to Bangkok .. enroute to The Philippines. I would expect to stay a couple of weeks beaching out in The Phils, before returning to Bangkok. My Chinese girlfriend plans to fly down then, and meet me in Bangkok. She has never beach to a beach, so the Thai beaches / islands will be a first for her.

I'll be away for a total of 6 weeks. When I come back to China, there will still be 10 days or so holidays left. I may consider going to the Stone Forest. Otherwise, just catch up with local friends and of course the TP webpage.

NYE? This year will be a lot quieter than last. Last year I spent NYE in Adelaide, Australia. Now, I know it was nothing like Sydney, but then neither were the crowds. This year I'm actually spending the Eve at home and NYD having dinner with relatives. There should be a houseful. A mini version of WeeJoe's party. Actually a very mini version from the sounds of things.
