Hello to all!
Well my girlfriend and I have traveling the world since July. India is on our itinerary and we will be there early next year. We arrive in Kolkata on February 2nd and we plan to travel for six weeks, going from east to west. Places we definitely want to visit are Kolkata (obviously), Varanasi, Agra, Delhi and Mumbai. After that, we aren't sure.
So, how should be go about India? What places do think we should visit? How long should we stay in each place? Etc.
We are quite flexible and very open minded. We are open to any recommendations.
Thanks for your help in advance.

After Delhi you can visit Hardwar, Rishikesh in the north. Thereafter you can visit western area Rajasthan area like Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer etc and reach Mumbai. Near Mumbai you can visit Ellora caves located near Aurangabad.
Thereafter you may visit Kerala area and enter Tamilnadu area.
Depending up on your interest you may stay 2days to 4days in each place as it depends from person to person.
Suggest you to refer a guide book so that you can know what interests you and decide number of days in each place.
All the best.
