I am considering taking a boat from Iquitos in Peru to Manuas in Brazil. Trouble is, moving from here is problematic. What I want to do is fly direct from Manuas to Rio. However, if you try book domestic flights in Brazil from New Zealand you only seem to be able to get the most expensive fares.
The Lonely Planet suggests that fares of about US$120 to Brasilia should be possible - I guess you would have to try your luck on the day. Has anyone tried this, was it difficult, and how easy was it to get cheap flights?
Well, the cheapest airline here in Brazil is one called "Gol", but I don't know if it conects Rio and Manaus...
I talked once to an American girl that was coming to Brazil and she told me that she had got an airpass from "Varig" (another airline). The late-night flights are also cheaper...
I hope it helps...
I flew from Manaus to Campo Grande in the south which made a connection in Brasilia, it was pretty expensive but I booked it at the last minute, apparantly the trick is to keep checking on the web site and the fares change daily! trust me I missed a much cheaper flight by booking a day later.
Gol is cheap but try out all of the airlines including varig!
Happy hunting, it takes perserverance!
