cahbrcidse has indicated that this thread is about India

Does this seem like a reasonable itinerary for 33 days (Jan/Feb) in India?
Is it possible to keep this under $US 2000?

(arrive) Delhi
Varanasi
Taj Mahal
(fly from Delhi) Kerala
(fly from Kerala ) Mumbai
Gujarat (working in an orphanage for 5 days)
Pushkar / Jaisalmer
(depart) Delhi

Thanks for your input!

Its quite possible to travel for a month within that budget. It approximately amounts to 93660 INR. As long as you mix and match your travel with luxury & budget hotels ( and not so upmarket accomodations ) , its absolutely fine really.

Yes, it is possible. The most expensive part is your domestic flight.
For hotels you have to choose mid range cheaper option.
Wish you all the best.
Raju India.

Fares:

Delhi- Varanasi
Flight(Spicejet SG-114) - Rs 3500-Rs 5000 (time :1-2 hrs)

Varanasi-Agar(Taj mahal):
Train: Rs 1000 for A/C coach. Train name :Marudhar Express (Time:12hrs)
I dont know if the Agar airport is operation or not. you can check before your trip if there are flights operational from Varanasi to Agra.

Varanasi- Delhi
flight(Spicejet SG-119): Rs3500- Rs6000. (time: 1-2 hrs)
A cheaper option could be bus, but i dont know how much time that will take.

Delhi-Kerela
No direct flights. You can reach trivandrum via Bangalore. The fares will be on the higher side because of the multiple flights, close to 10,000.

Kerela-Mumbai.
There is a direct flight from trivandrum to mumbai. Or you can go via Chennai. approx fare: Rs10,000.

Mumbai is the commercial hub of India and it is well connected. You can reach Jaisalmer via delhi. Mumbai-delhi is a very busy route, with approx 80 flights leaving mumbai for delhi everyday. You can easily get a ticket under 4000 to delhi, and from there you can take a train to Jaisalmer.

The flight tickets rates will shoot up , so i would recommend that you get your tickets booked asap. The cost for the rest of your trip will depend on the number of days that you will be spending in each city. Get your accommodations booked beforehand to avoid any hassles during your travel.

Again, all the above destinations are also connected by train, which are way cheaper, but you might find it difficult to get a reservation on such short notice. You could try, though:). You can add another 20,000 for accomodations. So you are still left with a minimum amount of Rs 30,000 for the rest of your trip. So, a trip inside 2000 USD is pretty much possible if you have a proper plan:)

Have fun. And spread the word:).

I would suggest
Delhi (2-3 days) (north India)
Agra (2 days) (north India 4 hrs by train from Delhi)
Jaipur (via Delhi)-Jodhpur, jaiselmer-mountabu (All in Rajasthan, few hours by train from Delhi)
Gujarat (west India, next to rajasthan, can be travelled by train/bus from Rajasthan)
Mumbai (max 2 days) (West India)
Goa (3 days) (South West India)
Kerala (2 days) (South India)
Kanyakumari/Manurai (South India, eastern Coast)
Mahabalipuram (In state of Tamil Nadu, South India east coast)
Hampi (karnataka)

From Hampi you may go to east India (calcutta etc)

If you follow the above route you may not have to take flights.
