gelli - I saw that link a few weeks back but didn't bother with it. Now that I have read it I can see how foolish I was. All I could think of was tying someone up! (but I don't even know why I thought that!) I worry about me sometimes!

I find the passport to be the handiest thing--I need it not only for port-of-entry and return, but also to cash the traveles' cheques.

Maybe you are right about the duct tape, though. It does come in handy for playing in the room with the wife;-)

WHOA...we got some freaks in here! My kind of people!! Mine is my sachel. Gone everwhere with it. Come to think about it..It's more dependable then some of my past girlfriends. Maybe, I should use duct tape;)!

Which reminds me

There's a recent thread of mine i'd forgotten about which i need to resurrect and reply to, but in essence says that completely

Bank card!!!! No doubt. No worries about travellers cheques. And passport doesn't hurt either.

Depending on where you are going!
toilet paper, at home I have 4 rolls of Russian toilet paper, before every trip I pull off a good bit of it fold it tight put it in a plastic bag and suck all the air out. Most third world countrys dont have TP in there bathrooms most especially public bathrooms.
I have a little kit I made up its in a tin can a litle bigger then a mint can it has needles, razor blade, dental floss, super glue, a thin piece of wire about 2mlong, a couple of band aids. and a small tool that victorinox makes, I also have a leatherman and a good riggers belt.
A headlamp spare batterys. A small Sangean SW radio.
I have a small pocket atlas that I use to show people where I am from, have been and where they are, It is really a big hit with Iraqi kids!

Wow...I never knew duct tape had so many uses....!!! Am so packing a roll of it now!!

read the duct tape thread....think i missed a fun (but very weired) discussion!!!!

seagreen12 - what the hell is the piece of wire used for??????

Keelzy:
i use the wire for everything from fixing renta wrecks, a bus in mongolia, Snare in the arctic circle.
Here is another trick for you wine drinkers, you have a bottle and no cork screw, push the cork into the bottle (use a stick or soemthingwith a thin blunt end), you will lose a bit of the wine, take a piece of string ( i have a bracelet made of para cord) or a shoe lace works too and tie a single over hand not in it at the end, push the string into the bottle below the cork and slowly pull up the Knot will catch the cork and pull it into the neck of the bottle continue slowly pulling and soon the cork will come up keep pulling and it will pop out. practise on boonesfarm, wait they dont use corks any more, practice on a cheap bottle..
