The prices on the Inca Trail have been rising steadily in recent years, so comparing against what other people have paid in the past is not going to give you an idea of what you are going to have to pay now.

You do need to book in advance now (at least 30 days before hand). I would, however, call around with some other tour companies and see what they are charging.

Mate, I am going to do Inca trail aslo. I have been hunting around and have definitely seen prices lower than that. You do need to book in advance, but them saying 12 months in advance seems a bit rich. Given November isn't exactly peak season, I would think you would be ok.

I will try to track down some of the companies I visited and post-them (obviously I haven't been there yet, so no guarantee's on quality!) - but I seem to recall seeing $250 - $300ish US prices.

I would also recommend taking a hunt round various forums like lonely planet etc. most of the guidebooks are out of date as these regulations are reasonably new, so its worth asking questions I would think.

Found the site I remembered, had a few recommendations etc. I can't vouch for any of them, but take a look.

Hello All,
This wed side will help to get in contact with many Peruvian agencies, ask them about the price of this marvellous Inkas Trail.
The weather, i think it's unpredictable, sunny days, rainy or cloudy days, or maybe all in one day...but it's great. I did it December 21-2001, first day: sunny second: cloudy with fine rain, third: stormy day...but the last day when i got to Machu Picchu was fantastic, sunny-perfect day in spite of December is a rainy season.

Have a good time...
