Hi there

I am a bit stuck regarding the New Zealand leg of our RTW in November. I am planning on staying there and working for 5 months, starting in Queenstown and working my way up to Auckland. I was wondering if anyone else has worked in NZ and what sort of jobs you have found and what you have done for accomodation? Is there any alternative to a hostel which at $25 a day is not going to leave me with much of the money I'm earning to do much else.

For some reason I am so stuck on deciding anything for NZ and am just having a complete block with it at the mo so basically I know the date I am arriving and leaving and have NOTHING planned in between that . Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated!

Hey, i'm new to this site, it's so helpful tho:) I know exactly what your saying. I'm planning to go around end of march. open tickets. Staying in New Zealand for about 6 months and planning on working immediately.. hopefully it's easy enough to find work. I'v heard you can rent apartments for about 150/wk which wud be same price as hostel almost.. altho obviously ders the initial deposit but at least you hv ur own place. it's so difficult knowing where to start.. how much to bring etc. I think get there and take it day by day

In response to my last post i take back what i said about rental accommodation. Looks like hostels are the way to go.. some of them look pretty entertaining!! If anyone has done the New Zealand thing some advise on which city to start in re: jobs n where to go from there wud be greatly appreciated:) thnx

hey - there is a site called trademe.co.nz which has plenty of apartments on for around $200 pw, between 2 of you it ends up costing pretty much the same as a hostel. Im not sure if they will take short term rents and I agree a hostel does sound entertaining but I reckon 5 months of sharing a room and bathroom with 6 other people may become slightly tedious As for the work situ I still have no idea what to do or what type of jobs I could get!
