Snowboarding Argentina & Chile?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Snowboarding Argentina & Chile?

Hello,

Preparing to embark on a RTW trip of which starting off in Brazil.
Planning on heading to Buenos Aires before following this (roughly planned!) route;

B.A - Bariloche - San Martin de Los Andes - Villa la Angostura - Pucon - El Colarado - Santiago - Cuzo.

Was wondering if anybody had done anything similar and if so had any tips on travel and accom?
So far it looks like buses will be our cheapest option but not sure how snowboard baggage friendly they are and some journeys seem fairly lengthy!

Also wondered if anybody has come across any affordable self catering accom. in any of these places as we have about 3 months to spend in between Argentina and Chile and would be good to not waste a long period of time/money in hostels!

Any help/tips much appreciated!
Thanks! :)

i travel in Argentina every summer and have had no problems with skis on buses. Bariloche is a cool town with loads to do at night but the skiing is average and snow is unreliable. if you want to stay check out http://www.barilochestudio.com/ its run by a friend of mine and the place is in a pretty good local.

for the best skiing in south america or the world check out Las Lenas. staying in Marlague you can get 50% off lift tickets.

Ushuaia is also pretty cool

Hey Tyler,

Thanks for your reply!
That place looks good, will def. check it out for the time we'll be staying in bariloche!

In terms of Marlague do you know of any cheap places to stay? If good we would consider staying up to 3/4 weeks before heading across to chile. And how do you know how easy it is to sort out the 50% lift pass or is it just a turn up when you arrive sort of thing?

Sorry so many questions!
