my girlfriend and i are going to do some charity work in Equador soon, and we want to 'make our way' there rather than fly direct, either by coming down from central America or travelling across South America. Can anyone tell us how long you'd need to do something like this? thinking of starting from mexico city if in central america, and south america is open. Girlfriend wants to go from Sao Paulo, but that doesn't seem a feasible journey to me, too far and too much rainforest in the way. however, i literally dont have a clue so some advice would be appreciated.

our time limits are flexible, so if anyone has anything on the best places to go on a trip towards Equador, where to start from or possible timeframes, i'd appreciate it.

If you travel from CA you will eventually have to take a plane or get on one of the sailboats that go back and forth between Panama and Cartagena...a little thing called the Darien Gap. There is no legitimate road that goes through.
