My family and I are going on a Caribbean Cruise in march 2010, there will be 5 adults and one child at 22 months old.
The Islands that we are visiting are... Dominican Republic (Samana), St Thomas, St Kitts, Antigua, Dominica, Barbados, St Lucia, Trinidad, Granada, Bonaire, and Aruba.
Can anyone give any recomendations on day time activities/tours for any of theses islands as it is the first time any of us will have been to this part of the world.
I spend some time on several of the islands you mentioned in 2008. I didn't do a cruise, but I guess there are quite a few daytrip options offered on board already.
In St. Kitts, the trip to Brimstone Hill Fortress is really worth it.
In Dominica, a trip to Emerald Pool in the central tropical rainforest is great
And on St. Lucia the area around Soufriere in the south is beautiful. here you can find the Pitons, twin mountains.
Check the Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominica and Saint Lucia articles here on TP: all of the above is described under 'sights and activities'.
You don't have to worry as cruise staffs will surely offer some activities on land while you are on board. Although you might want to choose and book the tours that you will picked earlier as at times, this tours can get full and you might not have a chance to do it.
cruise ships will inform you about tours available, but the will sell tours to you overpriced.
your ports of call are most small Islands,so you could do a tour on your own.
rent a taxi it is cheaper then the tour sold at the ship.
for exemple Aruba and Bonaire(where I live)
the ship will dock right in the middle of town so if you dont wanna see the whole Island you just walk over to the next hotel beach and enjoy the beautyful cristal clear water.you can also go by taxi to Sorobon, sandy beach a graet place for your child(and you)about 20 min.from the ship.Donky beach is also a great place, close to town and has trees for shadow.
Aruba has a lot of hotel beaches or you go by taxi to St.Nikolas
It dependes how long the ship will stay at this places.
I know you wrote a while ago but who did you book your Caribbean cruise through? It sounds amazing!
