I will have 3 nights or so left at the end of a three week trip in SE Asia and was wondering if anyone can reccommend a good place for me to visit with my boyfriend? I am flying out of Bangkok to Sydney, so it will ideally need to be a few hours from Bangkok (also I have previously visited many of the south islands so was thinking of going somewhere different this time). I was initially thinking of going to Koh Chang, but after reading some negative reviews about it, I am now looking at other options. I would like to go somewhere with a bit of a night life but nothing too crazy. I really just want some nice restaurants, a few bars and a lovely beach.....hopefully that's not too much to ask for!
Then go to Pattaya. I'd say that it has some of the best bars and club parties in Thailand. I really liked partying in that area.
Pattaya certainly has wild nightlife and one good beach option. I discuss this on my blog. I usually don't recommend Pattaya to ladies, but since you are with your BF, it should be a good 3 days. Only a few hours from the airport.
Another option is Hua Hin. More like 3-4 hours away from BKK and not near as much nightlife. A more laid back option from Pattaya. I would vote Pattaya, but perhaps Hua Hin is a better choice for you and your BF. Good luck with your planning.
I have three suggestions:
1. Pattaya (for the same reasons as expressed by vegasmike). Nightlife unlimited. Koh Larn only place I will swim.
2. Hua Hin (much much quieter than Pattaya and no late nights).
and my recommendation for a couple wanting a ' quiet romantic getaway with limited nightlife' then
3. Koh Samet staying at Ao Phai or Ao Tubtim to be close to the popular nightlife options. Ao Thap, Ao Wai, Ao Thian for quieter options.
I have been to Koh Chang (twice) but not Koh Samet (as I'm saving this visit for a romantic getaway LOL). I would say they are similar in what they offer but KS is a lot closer to Bangkok than KC. More practical for a 3 day trip.
Thanks for your help people! I think Koh Samet is a good contender although I will also have a look at the other islands mentioned
