Shall i book before i go- if so which site is it best to book them with?
It is cheaper to book over there or here?

Thanks

You are going in low season. Every travel shop and hotel will be thrilled you are there and spending money. Wait until you are there and then compare tours. Competition is fierce and you will get a much better price if you are standing in front of them. Get at least 3 quotes on tours that interest you. I would travel to Chiang Mai and then start your search. Why lock yourself into a tour while at home or in BKK? Once in CM, you will have plenty of choices for tours. Good luck with your planning.

Again, July is in low season. There is no chance of getting shut out of the hotel/guesthouse you choose to stay at. Many hotels/GHs offer discounts in low season because they cannot fill their rooms. In 14 trips to Thailand I have never booked anything before I arrived. One year I arrived in Pattaya during Chinese New Year and still found an acceptable room. Don't stress over hotels. You will be fine in every city you choose to visit.

Use the 'accommodation' option here on TP, left panel. Check the cities you want to visit, choose your price range and look at the ratings. Top rated hotels listed first. Pick several you find interesting. Then I would go to 'tripadvisor' and see what others thought of that hotel/GH. Good luck with your planning.
