Long ago in an Empire now sadly 'much reduced in circumstances' there was a Newspaper columnist named Anne Landers.
Kindly old Anne had her detractors but one thing she said that always stuck with me was "no one can take advantage of you without your permission".

She's also never been bashed from behind or mugged; had her handbag stolen, etc, etc.

Typical newspaper columnist....

-snip-
"she never had her drink spiked".
How would you know?
Chances are she never put herself in the position where someone could spike her drink-does this make sense?
-snip-
In fact she lived almost here whole life in Chicago-a not altogether salubrious and genteel city.
Yet she never let the chaos and sometimes almost overwhelming turmoil of living in a large N American city interfere with a life well lived and widely loved.

[ Edit: errr.. keep it nice please Sam ]

I just finished me final round of exams ... one of my last exams was cancelled in lieu of a guest speaker. i am a business major and he spoke about securities fraud. and how he was put in a position to make lots of money if he made certain quota's. what he did after that wasnt right. but i found him courageous because he made a mistake and then tried to make it right. he pleaded guilty and is awaiting his prision sentence.

i was inspired by his life, because he could have walked away without having any penalty, but because he knew what he was doing wasnt right he reported it. i dont know, but i never heard anyone who was genuine about the mistake he makes. we all want to be winners in someone eyes. but we also need to be gracious when we make mistakes. i dont know if that makes any sense and i dont think im doing the speaker any justice. but i only had a few hours of sleep.
