My name is Jonathan, my wife's name is Flavia and we are new here. I used to be a Thorntree guy but the lost me when they changed their site. I met my wife while I was backpacking for 14 months in South America, she was working at a hostel in Curitiba, Brazil. We met, fell in love, and have been married for almost 5 years now. I wrote a book about that trip and if that's interesting to you, you can check out my profile and take a look at it. I promise you will like it if you like travelling
We are leaving for a 10 month RTW trip in February, and we are both really excited. We both plan on writing in our blog, her in Portuguese, and putting tons of picutres up. Hope you like it and hope to run into some of you on the road.
Hey Jonathan, welcome to Travellerspoint. Glad to have you on board and looking forward to the blog entries!
Welcome Jonathan! Any ex LP'er is welcome here Seriously though, did LP change their forum again, or do you mean the change to the wider format from a while ago? Was there anything in particular you didn't like, as we've got a redesign coming up that is going to be pretty major. I think it will be an awesome improvement and it's hard to please everyone, but we also want to be really careful to not alienate users in any way!!
Nice story Jonathan! Welcome to TP and hope to see you around.

No, it was the forum change a while ago. It was a combination of things that drove me away. First, a lot of the old TTers kind of faded away and instead of challenging questions I found most questions just asking for a good hostel, and a ton of spammers infiltrating the site, however if you do need cheap electronics you could find them there! Also, it seemed that complaints were ignored, the head moderator turned off his private messages and then they erased tons of posts, and my post number went from over 2000 to 150 overnight, and we all know that little number under our name matters (even if we won't admit it )
Overall, I have been amazed so far at the way I have been received here, you guys seem to really care, and I think that TT just became too corporate. I worked for a little fish that was eaten by the biggest fish in the world; so I have seen a general malaise and apathy spread around here, and that was just the general changing feel at the TT as well.
Welcome to TP, Jonathan!
Nice story indeed!
About the spam, we do get them here, too. But they're flagged by our members (only 'Respected Members' and 'Travel Gurus' can do that) pretty quickly.
Hope you have a great trip, and see you around here, or in Kuala Lumpur if you're stopping by!

We'd better not sell to any big fish anytime soon Pete!
