Pitney82 has indicated that this thread is about Fiji

Hello,

As part of a trip I’m planning, I need to book a flight to Fiji and Australia from New Zealand.

I will be eventually ending up in Australia as I have a WHV, but want to make a trip over to Fiji before.

My question is - When is it best to book these flights? It would be two singles; I would fly out from Auckland and into Fiji and then back to Melbourne from Fiji.

I know there are cheap airlines out there, Virgin Blue, Pacific etc…But is it best to leave it a month before I go or book it now to get a cheaper price? They seem to have come down in price since Christmas slightly.

hey pitney,

im a travel agent in new zealand, but not trying to sell you anything!!!! only air pacific and air nz fly to fiji from auckland, so your best bet is probably to buy an air pacific flight from auckland-fiji-sydney/brisbane. at the moment there are some dirt cheap flights return to fiji from auckland and they get even cheaper if you book them with accom or something like the awesome adventures boat (which the majority of backpackers do) through an agent. Then just get a one way from auckland to sydney with jetstar.

i would check all the prices online and then go to see if an agent can do better, especially if you are booking boat passes etc as well.

if u can get return auckland to fiji flights for less than $600 nzd you are doing well...

cheers

I work as a travel agent in Australia and I've been to Fiji twice and am going again in April. What kevstump said is true about the flights. You can get Air Pacific from Auckland to Nadi and then Nadi to Melbourne or Nadi to Sydney. Depending on your dates they can be very cheap but the earlier you book the better. It is also a good idea to book it as part of an accommodation package which any travel agency could arrange for you. Often when doing that it works out a lot cheaper overall than buying seperate components.

Of recent times Air Pacific is often cheaper than these so called budget airlines which fly from Australia to Fiji. I got a return Sydney to Nadi flight for under $500AUD for travel over Easter time when I booked a few weeks ago (now is almost double that) and on the same dates on a budget carrier it was over $800AUD return on a lesser quality carrier.
