Barcelona or Portugal

Travel Forums Europe Barcelona or Portugal

A strange looking title I know, but that is the choice I'm facing. I'm staying for 6 days at Jerez in Spain. Afterwars, I have a week to either explore up the coast of Spain ending at Barcelona or going the opposite direction into Portugal, ending in Porto.

Can anyone suggest which option I take. I've never seen Spain or Portugal.

It may also help knowing that I'm a travel photographer. This is the sort of work I do . I'm more interested in getting decent pictures then getting a tan.

Thanks in advance

first off, lemme just say the shots look amazing!

NOW! instead of telling you about all the stuff you MIGHT enjoy i'll let you decide what would better suit your portfolio :)

Portugal:

http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/EnRouteToBilbao#
http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/GeresPortugal#
http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/NazarePortugal#
http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/LisbonPortugal#

Spain - East Coast

http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/PortAventuraSalouSpain#
http://picasaweb.google.com/rasvan.daraban/TarragonaSpain#

this is just a fraction of what either place has to offer, but the truth is, no matter which way you go, you'll have a lotta stuff to shoot.

hope this helps. if you have any specific questions ill be glad to help you out - ive been driving around spain/portugal for a whole month last year and ive never stayed in one place twice.

you should/could also consider cadiz as a destination.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply - your pictures have really helped me get a better idea of the area we are considering traveling to.

If I had to push you for a favorite, which would you choose?

Thanks again

Of photography I don't know much, but after being in Barcelona in the winter a couple of years back the place has some stunning architecture. Especially in the district where the old olympic buildings are. Compared to what I have seen of Portugal, (which isn't everywhere granted), I would recommend working your way to Barcelona for sure.

P.S. Shame you weren't in Jerez this week, missed some F1 testing

without the slightest doubt, it would be portugal BUT only if you're up for being on the road a lot - if you want a lotta cool stuff to shoot in a 50 mile radius go for barcelona - remember, great shots in portugal are few and far between! - also, do a bit of research on barcelona (the city), i found it... well, not amazing - but then again im more of a madrid type of guy - so you might wanna steer clear of the city and spend more time nearby.

also, could you pm me your email address- i wanted to ask you a couple of tech questions bout cameras and filters, pretty much one word answer questions (dont worry, i wont bother you too much) and you seem like the kind of guy who would be into that :)

thanks!

Hey Anton and Razu, thanks so much for the info.

Razu, I was leaning towards Portugal, but I'm stuggeling to find a car rental agency that allows one way trips from Spain to Portugal. I did find a cheap one that allows the trip to Barcelona, so I'll keep you advice in mind.

it makes sense since you'd have to drop the car off in spain - your best bet (if you wanna go to portugal) is to see if there's a company that'll let you bring the car back either north of portugal (santiago, a coruna) or just east of the border

try http://www.hertz.com/rentacar/ - be sure to check the "I'm returning this rental car to a different Hertz car hire location" box and you're all set - i tried to make a reservation - pick up in madrid, drop off in porto, 9th of March to 17th of March and it worked - but the drop off fees are stupid high :(

this is straight from the site:
