My husband and I are planning a nine day trip to Costa Rica. Two days really don't count because of airtravel. Trying to decide how to plan our trip. Thinking we will skip San Jose altogether and maybe fly into Liberia?
We absolutely want to see the Arenal volcano and spend some time there. For the rest of our week we would like to visit the beaches. I don't think we will have time to visit the Pacific side and the Caribbean side. What would you recommend? We love wildlife and any active activities. I would love to see turtles nesting if possible. Trying to figure out our time and how to travel between areas while in the country. We will be heading out first week of June.
Also, do you think we will get a little sun at the beaches in June?
I will recommend you to fly directly to Liberia, that is in the pacific coast and you will enjoy the most beautiful beaches. By instance: Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa to name a few. If you rent a car you can drive and see a lot of beaches easily.
Arenal is a great place to see and stay; I will recommend you the hot springs; there are two: Tabacon (high end, very luxurious and a bit expensive) or Baldi a nice place and more cheaper (both are very nice) and you will have a wonderful view of the volcanoe.
Another place is Monteverde, is a nice little town with a lot of wildlife and activities (check the SkyTrek and SkyWalk)
If you need more information, please let me know.
How are you doing? I would fly into Liberia so that you could be closer to the Pacific beaches, but I think that it is a bit more expensive to do so. If you leave from San Jose, you could go straight to Arenal and then go to the beaches on the Pacific and do a little loop back to San Jose or just fly out of Liberia, but with your time restraints it would be most logical to fly into Liberia. I would stay away from the Caribbean side of the country and focus on the Pacific side.
Thanks guys! I think the Pacific side and flying into Liberia sounds like the way to go. Does anyone know if we will be able to see turtles nesting on that side in June? Does anyone know the best way to get from Liberia to Arenal and Monteverde after we fly in? Should we book a bus or something ahead of time?
