Travel Forums System Talk Spam Flags

Sam's reply in this thread got me thinking... (I know bad idea for Isa to think.)

Over time, I've encountered threads showing the spam flag (on the forum page) just to find it's the last post that actually had been flagged. This seems to be the case when there are less than X number of replies to the thread (hypothetically, I'll say less than 5 replies). Once there are more replies, the flag does not appear on the main forum page but only in the thread itself (and the notification page, of course).

Honestly, I don't believe it to be a consistent thing but it has happened more than once in the past. It's always struck me odd though not enough to comment as it wasn't (as I say) consistent.

The spam flag in the forum index shows if the flagged post was by the same member as the one who started the thread.
The confusion in the thread you're linking to existed just because new members sometimes don't understand that it's a reply to their thread which gets flagged, and that it's this specific reply which is objectionable, rather than the post which they made. I suspect that because of this member's reply, Sam thought there was a red "spam?" flag on the thread, but that in reality it was simply the text of "this message has been flagged ..." which got the member in question questioning what was going on.

Most likely correct and definitely plausible. But, I have encountered what I described above also. The thread itself will show the red spam flag on the main forum page. Yet, the only thing flagged is a reply post within the thread and not "Post #1". Again, I understand what you are saying, Sander. And, that's probably the issue in my linked thread. If, and when, what I described happens again, I shall leave it alone for investigation. (Given I can coordinate with my co-mods not to delete it.)

I'm also thinking what I have encountered at times has to deal with changes that Admin is making to the site as I'm checking things and then all reverts to "normal". Just a thought... ;)

Sander is correct, I wasn't really sure what had happened there :) I assumed that the red spam flag had shown in the forum thread view, but Sander's description sounds much more plausible!!
