Has anyone been or are travelling with children?

I'm off to Oz and NZ for 4 months starting March. I know my kids will be fab and will love it but am unsure how hostels will react to children and whether there are many who restrict age?

Also if anyone can recommend places to go and things to do. For now they are going to be doing everything I'm up for - although I don't think they'll be following me skydiving but pretty much everything else I think they can have a go at.

If you are in oz or nz same time would be great to meet up with anyone - especially if you have kids with you too!

Hi
It depends which city you are visiting with teh kids. There are theme parks on the Gold coast ( queensland) beautiful beaches too. In sydney there is aquarium, zoo, harbour climb, tower where you can see the entire city from the top adn also a sky walk, beaches, a day trip to the blue mountains.

check out the local websites for good deals on hotels in Oz...Also you can go to each citys website and check teh visitors info.

cheers

In my experience, there were quite frequently a couple of kids running around at the larger YHA hostels I stayed at. Many even had family rooms (e.g. a bunk bed and a double bed in the same room). The only restriction will probably be that they wouldn't be allowed to sleep in a dorm room. (And maybe some non-YHA hostels might have different policies. Don't know about that.)

I did some backpacking in Australia for several months and there was often kids in the hostels, so you shouldn't have any trouble there :) What a great experience for your kids, they'll have a blast!

I recommend you to visit Brisbane, there are a lot of amazing things to see and do around Brisbane. Whether you're in the mood for something relaxing or adventure. Animal lovers can see Australian wildlife up close at Lone Pine or Alma Park Zoo.
