At some point on my rtw trip I'll be in new zealand and would love to try skydiving.
Was just wondering if anyone had done it and what it's like??

You'll love it. I've got about 3600 jumps now - did it once and never looked back! Go for it!

3600 jumps? Dude, what do you do, jump once a day every day for the past 10 years?!?!

skydiving is amazing. its really not as scary as you think. i thought for sure i would be hysterical up there in the plane, but if you go tandem, the instructor just kind of pushes you out, and you're free falling at 150 mph. its the most incredible adrenaline rush of your life. once the parachute opens, its a real downer....

I jumped tandem from 15,000 feet, pulled the shute at 6,000 and watched a bird fly past level with my eyesight. It was the most exhilarating thing I've ever done so far. I was 52 yrs old at the time.
One thing no-one told me is that the air goes past your face so fast in free-fall that it virtualy closes your nostrils with the force of it, so open your mouth to breath!!
Go for it,

Yea... I'd love to hear about any place round NZ or Australia.. I'm going on my first RTW (hehe.. I should add that it's the second trip in my life, if you don't count the one's where I've gone to my neighbouring countries...) and I'd love to skydive.. Maybe someone knows where a good place to bungy is too?

Well in Canada I think you have to do a minimun of 28 jumps to get certified (and that costs quite a bit of money).

I did the static jump (only 4000 ft) rather than the tandem at 15000, only because I felt that having someone do everything is cheating. The point is to see whether you can will yourself to let go of that plane! Let me tell you, it is perhaps one of the most scariest and exhilarating things I've done. We went with small planes that carry 4 jumpers (all four of us (strangers) clung onto one another as we climbed)... I guess people tend to bond once they know they may actually die. Even to this day I remember my heart pounding and the adrenalin... the sheer effort to pursuade myself to let the plane go. You'll love it!! If I had the money, I'd get certified! All four stranges gulped down a 24 of beer once we got to the ground.

Go for it, it is the best experience of my life. You will be hooked on to it. If you manage to get to South Africa on your RTW try Bungee jumping at Bloukrans. Highest in the world - 216 Meters.
Also skydiving there is great, and cheap!!

I did my first tandem jump in Australia, Cairns - Mission Beach in spring 2000:

My second tandem jump I did in Switzerland, Interlaken - over the mountains and lakes, some months later in 2000.

Last year I did some paraglyding in Swizerland, but it's of course less spectaculous than skydiving!!!!!!

It was just the best I did, and will certainly repeat it one day.

Please don't save by missing out to let to take a video of your jump! Many times at home I watched my jump on the video tape that made me happy and happy again!
