"Hongkies" sounds derogatory.

I'd say "Hong Kong-ers." Hong Kong-ers don't necessarily love being associated as "Chinese" since this includes the rest of mainland China (who Hong-Kongers called "mainlanders").

It is really interesting that though Hong Kong, is a SAR (Special Administrative Region of China)., the currency is NOT Chinese RMB but it is HongKong Dollars.!!! I have n't seen anyonce calling themselves as Chinese, atleast in the first instance.:))

I just tell people I'm Chinese. Then if asked, say "Chinese from Hong Kong"

Its a similar debate to the Taiwan = or not = part of China thing....
