lynnjessic has indicated that this thread is about Argentina

My boyfriend and I currently attend university in Washington DC. We are both flying down to Buenos Aires sometime around Feb 15th for a semester of study abroad - I will be attending UBA and he will be attending UTDT. We are living in Buenos Aires until June 25th. We are thinking of travelling South America for 4-6 weeks afterwards. We definitely want to go to Brazil and probably all of the Mercosur countries. I just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions. What is the best way to travel? Any places we should especially plan for, or conversely, any places to avoid? Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It's a big continent and with only 4-6 weeks, I would suggest flying between places. Buses are plentiful (at least in Southern areas) and inexpensive, but they do take a long time.

You might want to look at getting an air pass with Lan Chile or Varig.

yes if you want to go to places, that are far of each other, an airpass would be the best solution. but you have to get it from abroad. so to say , with your ticket to buenos aires together.

if you prefer travelling by bus, there is even in the shorter distances too much to see in 4-6 weeks.
some interesting examples might be: mendoza, iguacu falls in brasil , Santiago in Chile, Patagonia ... and a lot more.

have a nice trip
