Hello humans... I was thinking of making my first trip out of the country, ever, to Vietnam. And as I read more and more threads I realized how accessible Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia... were. This is all very wonderful and I am very excited. I am curious however, how safe will I be alone backpacking between cities (travelling and camping)? This is all kind of new, so I would appreciate any words (or quips) of wisdom... peace.
There is, by all accounts a well-trodden tourist path around South East Asia and you shouldnt have problems meeting others in the same boat as yourself. Safety is a different story, truth is, no-one can predict what may or may not happen on the road but you cant allow this to put you off travelling either. Just keep your wits about you, use your head and read up as much as possible beforehand to give you confidence and background knowledge.
I would say that the safety bonuses associated with staying in hostels as opposed to camping, far outweigh the extra cost in 99% of circumstances.
I have put this link on TP before, its not promotional but it does offer fantastic advice on all aspects of travel including security. It'll give you all the confidence you need.
You'll have a great time.
Thank you...that link is actually very helpful. I do want to camp, not necessarily because of money. I would like to spend a great deal of time outside of large cities. And your right WeeJoe, when is a place "safe" enough? Thank you... peace
