Tell me about the age thing i was 30 at the end of january, which is why i feel like this is the now or never point in my life, feel like i have been treading water for most of my twenties but want something completley different for my thirties.
Listen it is never too early to get the suitcase out. lol!!
I bought my holdall in the boxing day sales and it has been at the foot of my bed ever since and each time i buy something for the trip i put it in my bag with this huge smile on my face knowing that in the not so distant future that bag will hopefully be at the end of some hostel bed in an amazing new place which i cant wait to explore. So go on get that suitcase out!!!

You're right, time to get the case out!! I feel the same. My twenties weren't that great and now all of a sudden my thirties are here and i'm determined to make them fabulous! It's fab on here having someone to get all excited about it with, all my mates still don't believe i'm actually going to go! Plus, i secretly think they're more jealous than excited ha xx

Yeah my friends are defo jealous, 1 in particular wishes she could come with me but she has an 18 month old at home with a loser of a bloke and now knows that if she had this time again she would defo do things different, that is why i want to do this before i get settled down with huge mortgages and kids.
I agree with you that it is great to be able to talk to somebody who is doing or planning the same things, as u have some common ground straight away and it is good to hear about other peoples experiences of orgainsing things along the way.
I have been looking at these chat rooms for quite a while and it is amazing about how many handy little tips i have picked up from reading others posts. Things that u would prob never think of.

What work do you do at the moment, do they know what you are planning???
I havnt told my boss yet but i am planning on telling him at Easter, then that will give him plenty of time to get someone else who i can train up before i leave.

Yeah i've been reading some pretty interesting stuff on these forums, things i would have had no idea about otherwise. I'm a prison officer at the moment and i've not said anything to them about leaving. I'm gonna ask for a career break for a year but if they won't agree to it i'm gonna hand my notice in. Only have to give one month notice so no rush. I've been tryin to find info about mobile phones in oz, whether it's best to buy a sim here so i can tell everyone the number, or wait til i get there and just email the number to everyone. Have you thought about that yet? The phone i've got now is pretty knackered so might buy a cheap one to take with me. This one runs out of battery within a couple of hours! No good on my travels ha xx

Yeah i was thinking abot the mobile and i have been on the vodafone website, they do a sim only deal which is $29 per month, for that you get $150 of flexible credit to use on whatever u want ( internet etc ), u also get $150 of Vodafone 2 vodafone credit, to use to ring other vodafone users , from what i have read vodafone seems to be the one that most people go for, so i guess most calls or text u would make would be covered.

I know Ozintro supply a Vodafone sim card as part of their package, and with a V.I.P Backpackers card (which i think might be a good investment), you get an Optus sim card. I think i'll start a thread on here to see what experience others have had with phones abroad xx

Will keep an eye out for that thread, and see what info you get back, going out now so logging off, but will hopefully chat with you more tomoz, if u check out your inbox i have sent u my email address if you want to contact me via that at anytime.
chat again soon x

Hi Gail & Louise,
I’m also planning to head over in September. I have the dilemma of deciding where to travel and the best route to go. I definitely want to spend xmas and new years in Sydney (although I’ve been told it’s very expensive in Sydney around that time). This is my first time travelling and I’m doing it alone so I’m a bit scared but also very excited. Glad you are talking about taking a suit case Louise as I was thinking exactly the same as you lol. At least I won’t be the only one doing that! I’m looking at the harvest work to get the second year visa also, do you guys know how long you have to stick it out to get the second year? So excited about going, just trying to save like mad now!!

Hi Hannah, as far as I know you have to do harvest work for three months to qualify for the extra twelve months. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I think the harvest work is tough and rubbish money but totally worth it for the experience, and extra holiday time of course! I know it's meant to be expensive in Sydney in comparison to other parts of oz but to be there xmas and new year must be fabulous! So what plans have you made already? Going with a company like Ozintro or being really brave and going it alone? Have you sorted your visa or anything yet? The more I talk about it the more excited I get!! And stick with the suitcase girl...you know it makes sense ;-)
