Hi Zoe, welcome to the chat! It's quite daunting all the planning etc but it's also really exciting. I think the organised things are really good for helping you settle by the sound of them, personally i'm far too independent and stubborn for them ha ha. My plan at the moment is fly to sydney for a week's holiday then onwards travelling. I'm going to book a hostel for a few nights, maybe the full week in sydney, but that's about it. Much more exciting to wing it ha ha x

Hi Zoe - welcome to the thread!

I know exactly what you mean, I'm also freakin it a little but I have to tell you I've been reassured by so many people who have done this / are doing this that you will meet people along the way be it through the place you decide to stay or a tour you decide to take. Loads of people are in the same boat and as long as you're not too shy and don't lock yourself away every day you're not going to have any problem!

In regards to planning, I have a rough idea of what I want to do / where I want to go but I'm leaving it flexible because if something comes up and I change my mind I want to be able to have the option to do it and not be stuck on someone else's schedule.

At the end of the day though, you have to do what works for you and that you're most comfortable with

It won't be exciting or much fun "winging it" if you start out in Sydney in September. You'd be much better to start in Cairns and work your way down because Cairns is tropical and has two seasons - wet and dry. The wet season is November to May and it'll be very hot, very wet and very humid. It is also stinger season - nasty little things in the water that sting and you can die from them. Very painful. And dangerous. Read about them here.

3 more months to go!!

Still loads of junk I need to throw out

Still haven't sorted my insurance and it's still doing my head in

Still can't decide what type of luggage to get, altho realise I'm to take very little.

Tis all doing my head in a bit now! Just want to get there! At least I've been able to turn a shade darker than bright white so I won't be so visible when I walk off the plane!

Hi Jess,

I feel exactly the same...fed up of talking about it, working overtime to pay for it, organising it, just want to get on the bloody plane!!!!!!

I'm gutted that I've bought a big holdall on wheels. It's too late for me to return it now too. Never mind, I'll just have to be careful not to over pack.

Roll on September!!!!

LOL yea I saw that you got a 140L bag LMAO and I thought I was bad!! Tbh, had no idea what the volumes were like until I had a look at them at the weekend. I was going to get a 60l but still not sure, I'm kinda weedy so I don't want to look a right geek - not that I should care - but I do!

OMG. I am so pleased I have found this thread. I am planning on travelling in Australia in september too for a few months but was scared I would be the only nearly 30 something out there and be surrounded by 18 year old gap students! Good to hear you are all heading out. Might see you along the way!!
Tanya :)
