Yeh I think I can cope with the money just to spend new years in Sydney. I’m planning to be brave and go on my own at the moment. I kinda want to go to Perth but mainly want to stay on the east coast and travel from Cairns down to Melbourne. As Perth is all the way over the other side I think I might fly in there and then make my way across to Cairns then down to Sydney for xmas/new years. I haven’t applied for the visa yet as I’m still having discussions with my work to see if I can work for the company in Sydney for part of my stay so it depends on what they say as to when I apply for the visa. I’ve done the application and been accepted so just need to pay for it. I think a few different companies charge different amounts for the visa. Have you looked into the price? I’m trying to think of what to take with clothes and shoes I love high heels but I’m sure it’s not very practical to take them lol, it’s a nightmare!! Are you going to camp over there at all? I’m thinking of mainly staying in hostels but maybe having to camp in Syndey over xmas and new years depending on the price and availability of the hostels. I think the harvest work is worth it for the extra time. Do you have to apply to do the work before you arrive?

That'll be a fab sightseeing trip from Perth to Cairns, i'm sure you'll love it although I suspect it might take a while! Are you going to fly across? I haven't got my visa yet but i'm going to do it thru the australian gov site, it costs £135/$230 AUD. As for clothes and shoes, i'm planning on taking a few casual things (vest tops, shorts etc), a jumper or two in case it gets chilly at night, some jeans, a couple of nice going out outfits, trainers, flip flops and of course some heels! Gotta take heels girl, don't know about you but i'm five feet five tall, i need all the height-help I can get ha. I'm considering taking some smart black trousers and a black or white shirt for when i try to get a job but then again i might buy them there. I don't know yet. I'm not planning on camping but never say never. I'm looking to stay in hostels mainly, and perhaps a house share if i get a job and want to stay somewhere for any length of time. I've seen cairns houseshare on the web which seems to be set up for working travellers, shared facilities like a hostel but a bit more chilled and settled. I don't think you have to apply for work before you go but you can register with agencies I think. I've not looked into that too much though so could be wrong. I'll send you a message with my email then me you and gail can keep in touch if you like, let each other know how the plans are coming etc. Lou xx

Yeh that would be great to keep in touch I’m sure I’ll need loads more advice as the time goes on and it gets nearer! I might fly from Perth to Cairns but I’ve been told the flights in and out of Perth are really expensive so might look at trains to see the price difference and maybe can stop off at few places on the way. That’s a pretty good price for the visa I might look into that one. I always over pack even just for a few weeks holiday so I’m going to find that really hard haha. I’m about five, seven but most of my heels are 6 inches so I become mega tall haha. I think I might buy the smart clothes out there then it gives me an excuse to do some shopping. The house share sounds like a good idea especially if you do get a more permanent job. Do you know where you are going to look for the work? I was thinking after travelling down to Melbourne going back to Sydney to work but I might fall in love with a particular area and decide to stay there. Thing I’m worried about with the suitcase is being able to lock it in the hostel lockers. I guess it’s easy to stuff a back pack in them but not a suitcase. So much to think about!! xx

Oh my god I never even thought about fitting my suitcase into a hostel locker!! Mind you, you get some pretty big backpacks so as long as we don't take huge suitcases we should be ok??? Bloody hell, drama drama drama ha ha. I don't know where i might look for work yet, i think i'm just going to take it as it comes. Like you said, you may fall in love with somewhere and want to spend more time there than somewhere else. I wish i was loaded and didn't have to work at all :-( Just swim, shop, learn to surf, sunbathe etc without having to worry about my bank balance ha xx

Haha I think of the strangest problems but I guess you want your bags secure when you go out so I suppose that’s why I thought about it lol. I might look at getting one of those material type suitcases which has wheel then it’s a bit easier than a hard suitcase. I wish I was loaded 2!! I keep playing the lottery in hope haha. Swim, shop, get a great tan just lying on the beach all day what a dream life! I’m going to Cornwall 2morrow for a long weekend to do some surfing but it’s gonna soooo cold! Can’t wait for the heat of Australia!! xx

Hmmm that's really got me thinking now about my suitcase....not to worry. Plenty of time to sort that out. Enjoy your long weekend. I've got serious man flu so i'm going to crash out. Take care and chat soon. Lou xx

I travelled with a backpack for 12 months around Europe and the U.K. Next time ill be taking
a suitcase, unless your mountain climbing or walking great distances you really dont need a
backpack. A day pack yeah is handy, but id take a suitcase you can fit way more, plus they are
more secure. I think most people think of themselves as 'backpackers' therefore they must carry
a backpack. A rookie mistake perhaps.

Thanks tarnasky, that's good to know. I can't bear thethought of having to transport my worldly goods in a bag the size of a small human on my back! So what about hostel lockers? Will they accomodate suitcases? How will I keep it safe when i'm off seeing the best of oz?

Morning Lou

With regards to the security of your belongings, i have bought a Pacsafe 120 off Ebay, which is a wire mesh that goes around my holdall, as i believe not all the hostells have lockers in the rooms. xx

Morning Gail, that sounds like a good idea. You're very organised! I'll have a look at those, are they all different sizes etc? I guess they'd stop people getting into your case but what about someone picking it up and just walking off with it? So much to think about! I'm loving it ha ha xx
