attached to it is a cable that you can attach to the bed or any other structure that doesnt move, yes they do come in different sizes, i got the pacsafe 120 as it will go round up to 120 litres, my holdall is 100 litres and it just fits snuggly round it.
There is defo a lot to think about so i keep making these lists for myself to do and it just keeps getting longer, but i have started to buy a few things, the essentials each month when i get paid so it isnt one big expense nearer the time, it doesnt seem to hurt the wallet as much that way. I paid £30 for the pacsafe on ebay, it costs about £60 in the shops so got a bargain there.
It maybe worth having a look at some of the holdalls on wheels as they are a bit more flexible in terms of maybe stuffing them into a locker etc than a suitcase. My holdall looks just like a suitcase as it opens in a big u shape on the top so you can see everything inside. I got it from Go Outdoors it is made by Hi Gear it cost me £54, i think you can see it online if you go to their website.
Ps im loving it too xx

I like the sound of that. I'm going to go look at some luggage, see what sort of thing i fancy taking, then get one of those pacsafe things. I'm also gonna start picking things up on payday so it's not so much of a money shock nearer the time! I'm in touch with a friend of a friend who's out in oz now and she's loving it! Some of her pics on fb are amazing. That'll be us soon woooo hoooo!!

Hey i'm hoping to go over in september too!
But i am defo going to be doing the ozintro thing as it takes hassle out of my first week as i'm really nervous about going alone!!
I was thinking of taking a backpack but now reading this i've decided that it'll more than likely be a suitcase.. can pack loads more stuff then!!
What are you plans for when you get over there?
I was thinking of a couple months of travelling then finding work

Hey Harribo

Good to hear from you, when r u thinking of going in sept, have you been looking at flight costs and the start dates with ozintro. At the moment the plans that i have in my head is start in Sydney for the 1st week with Ozintro, then catch a flight up to cairns to save on time and extra costs, then spend the time travelling back down to Sydney in time for the xmas/new year period, afetr the new year would prob look into going down to melbourne as would love to go do the great ocean road trip. After that i have no idea, i will probably just go with the flow or see what i have liked about a particular place on the way and maybe go back there for a while.
I was alo thinking of not having to work for at least the 1st couple of months also, but u never know what is gonna happen so i will just see what happens when i get out there.
Are u also considering doing the harvest work so you can get the 2nd yr visa???

Hello =)

Thanks for replying!
I'm thinking of going about mid september... hoping that money permits! I was looking into getting a loan for it.. some say its a bad idea.. others think i should! So was thinking either the 13th or 20th sept for ozintro. I think its pretty good value and its had good reviews compared to a couple others i looked at!
That was my kinda plan.. going to do ozintro and then work way up to cairns as everyone i know loves it there. and iwanted to be in sydney for xmas and new years as my friend has just done it and said it was amazing!
I've been looking forward to this for so long now!
I'm hoping that i have enough money to not have to work for the first 2 months at least. As i want to not worry about having to get up and go to work.
But i was looking into doing the harvest work as if i fall in love with the place i'll never want to leave!!
I have been looking up direct flights as i dont think i can handle to changing and waiting around. And its about £906 for a 6 month return. Are you looking at stop overs?
Are you taking a suitcase or backpack?
i've so much to plan and im getting nervous. My parents dont think its a good idea for me to go as i'll be alone. But i was hoping to mett some people who were going the same time as me.
Sorry this is so long!!

Harriet :)

Hi Harriet,

Welcome to our little chat, glad to hear another girlie is sticking to her guns and taking a suitcase as opposed to a back pack ha ha.

Just been to Travel agents and there's a Malaysian airlines flight 13th Sept from Heathrow to Sydney for £788 with a stop of just 5 hours at Kuala Lumpar each way...pretty good I'd say. You can book it with a return date eleven months ahead of the date of booking apparently, then change it nearer the time for any date within the next eleven months (if that makes sense). So for that one I was thinking I might book it April to fly out Sept 13th and fly home March 2011, then sometime after August 2010 amend the return date to August 2011...sorted! It was £75 to amend the return flight date prior to flying out to Sydney, or price on request if you want to change it once you've made the initial departure flight. God knows how much that is. The lady said it could be more than £75, could be less. Pot luck really.

I'm hoping to avoid working for a couple of months, money permitting!! The type of work I was thinking of - bar work etc, requires you to have an RSA and RCG (Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate and Responsible Conduct of Gambling certificate) which I've been advised to do once you get to Oz rather than getting them over the internet as they may not be valid. I think these cost about $85 AUD each and are half-day courses, but I've not checked into where you actually do the courses! Hopefully they are easy to locate!

I'm going to apply for my WHV now....wish me luck!!

Hi Harriet

With regards to the money situation i am im the same position, i will be taking out a bank loan, then out of the loan i am gonna leave 12 months worth of payments in an account here so i dont have to worry about it for at least the 1st year.
I have also been looking at flights and i have found quite a few that are in the region of £755 to £849 Return of 12 months flying from London Heathrow to Sydney via Kuala Lumpar with Malaysia Airlines, this is who Lou who i have also been in contact with on this thread has had some quotes with.
Which airport was you thinking of leaving from?? where is the country do you live??

I must admit my mum is also quite nervous and worried about me going alone, but like you i am hoping to maybe make some friends on here before i go and then at least it wont be so scary.
I have also been looking forward to this trip for such a long time, i was 30 at the end of january (how old are you?? )
and it has now become a now or never decision, and i have said to myself that if i dont go i will regret it for the rest of life, so im biting the bullet and going for it.

Now onto the suitcase/ backpack question, i most defo will be taking a holdall on wheels, it is 100 litres in size but very light weight and it opens just like a suitcase so i can have easy access to things. I just couldnt live out of a backpack, i mean how much room is there gonna be once you have got the hair straightners, makeup bag and other girlie essentials in it. lol :)

AAAArrrrrrggggh, just started to do my visa application, getting all excited etc, realised I've left my passport at home and I'm five miles away at my mum's on her computer!!!!!!

Gutted, I'll have to do it tomoro......what a let down. I was getting so escited about doing it today

I totally agree Gail, a back pack is certainly not enough for all those girlie essentials! My make up would need it's own back pack!! xxxxx
