Sorry Lou our posts came in at the same time, what a div leaving your passport at home!! lol
Im so glad that u are on my wave length with regards to the make up bag etc, i just cant imagine myself living like some eco warrior for 12 months, a girl defo needs some creature comforts.

I have also been doing some more thinking about when to go, if we is not wanting to work for the 1st couple of months would it not maybe make sense to go till say mid october then you would not have to work untill after the xmas period, and probably there would more jobs available in the new year, Also the flights are near enough the same price for the month of october, what do you think??? xx

I know, total idiot....Perhaps I shouldn't be left to fen dfor myself in a far away land if I can't even remember to take my passport 5 miles down the road ha ha!!

That makes sense I suppose, but i've kind of got my heart set on Sept and the thought of waiting any longer makes me want to cry!!!! I might even be going earlier, possibly July depending on what happens at work.

I'm gutted, I can't arrange anything til I know my leaving date from work and I wont know that til at least April!!!!!
Why is nothing ever straight forward??

Whats with the work issue, r u maybe getting made redundant or something??

44. Posted by Louise80 (Full Member 106 posts) 6y

They are offering voluntary redundancy so I've put in for that as I'm leaving anyway, might as well leave with some cash. Unfortunately the closure for expressions of interest is end March so gotta wait til they make decisions on who gets it. Keeping my fingers crossed as it's worth between 4 and 5 grand if I get it (very nice...). If I do get it they want rid of us at end June so might as well bugger off in July rather than stay here with no job, eating into my holiday money. If I dont get it I'm working til end Aug/early Sept to save as much as poss.

Just found a really useful website for info- Jobaroo.com

Loads of info on setting up bank accounts etc if not going thru someone like OzIntro... xxx

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, that you do get it. ( the money will be a great bonus for u, wont have to tap ur dad for as much. lol )
I was nearly made redundant at xmas, but thankfully it wasnt me, as it was too soon for it happen and it would have meant getting another job just for 9 months which i didnt fancy, as i have quite an easy job at the mo and just didnt fancy having the stress of a new job and new people.
Will defo have a look at the new site you have found.
Been out and bought myself an ipod and a new camera for the trip woohoo xx

Tell me about it....I really would love not to have to borrow any money off the oldies. I'll keep you posted. I dont fancy getting an in-between job either. Too much hassle!

I need a new camera for the trip, and a new mobile phone, and an Ipod....Jesus it's gonna cost me a fortune

Just making a list of expenses. So far I've got travel to Heathrow, visa application cost, flight, first few nights accomodation, flight from Sydney to Cairns, VIP backpackers card which gets you money off loads of stuff, RSA and RCG certificates when I get there, transfer from airport to hostel, Aussie sim card and phone number....

Can you think of anything else? xx

Thank you both for the help!!

I am going to be flying from heathrow as i live near gloucester. and the coach will take me right to the terminal.
Those are really good prices for the flights. And it saves a whole bunch of money that i can use for other things for the trip =) So i might change my mind and go for the cheaper option =)
Would you 2 be flying from heathrow and not manchester then?

I'm 22 at the moment.. had a bad year and a bit so i thought now was the best time to go and enjoy myself =)
i've wanted to do this since i was 18.. just never got around to it. Am glad my visa is paid for and accepted i thought they'd say no!
I think it is one of those things that if you dont do you'll always end up thinking what if.

I looked up backpacks and there is no way i'll be able to take 12 months worth of stuff.. i overpack for a weeks holiday so i am going to have trouble packing for this trip! lol
I have a fabric animal suitcase with wheels but maybe i should go buy a hodall instead. As its not very flexible.. and it might have to be squahed into places!

Yeh thats what i was thinking of doing.. making sure there was enough money in my account to cover the payments for 1st year and then see what happens =)
I just hope they give me a loan now or i cant go until december =( And i've my heart set on september!

xxxxxxx

You're welcome. I'm not sure where I'm going to fly from but when I went to Thomas Cook today there didnt seem to be many flights from Manchester going with Malaysian Airlines which are def the cheapest option, and I think it would cost less to get to Heathrow then it would to pay extra for the Manchester flight, if you see what I mean...?!? Like you say, go for the cheapest option and spend the saved money on better things ha ha

I've got my fingers crossed for you for the loan. How long did your visa take to process? I'm going to try mine again tomoro since I was too dim to remember my passport today......idiot!

Roll on September girlies xx
