Hey, i'm heading out to Oz mid-July, and went with a company called RealGap, and from what i can work out its pretty much the same as this Ozintro thing. I considered doing it all on my own as it's cheaper, but to be honest i would only mess it up as i'm the least organised person! not to mention i'm travelling alone for the first time! but yeah landing in Sydney on the 19th and hoping to stay for 5months plus, i have no time-limit so i'm completely free to go back home whenever i want! hoping to stay in hostels but a house share would be quite a laugh i think! would be good to chat with people in the same sort of situation! Mark

Hi Mark, I've seen stuff about Realgap and they seem pretty good. I know what you mean about not being organised! I'll be surprised if I remember to organise everything but hey, all part of the fun ha ha. Have you got your flight booked yet? Lou

Hi Gail, how's things?

I've been looking at flights and insurance today. Found a decent looking Malaysian Airlines flight from Heathrow to Sydney via Kuala Lumpar 13th Sept £671. Costs £100 to change return date after outbound flight which I thought was ok. I put the return date as Feb 9th just to get an idea. The flights weren't too bad either. One stop each way at KL for 5hrs on way out and 3hrs on way home. Flight was on I've been told good things about Malaysian Airlines, and you can pre-book seating. I've had a look on their website and have got a list of the economy seats with the most leg room (eg the ones near the crew seats, next to doors etc) ready for booking ha ha ;)

Insurance, well looked on comparison site and cheapest was with Infinity, never heard of them, but it is for Aus and NZ, had £5m medical, £2m personal liability, £1000 cancellation and £750 baggage. Excess was £100 for each thing. I got the quote to run from 1st April this year to 12th Sept next year. I thought if I book a flight now and things go arse up I want to be covered from now really. Was only an extra £30 ish to cover from now instead of starting the cover in Sept.

So have you been investigating anything?

Yeah they're really good, seem to know exactly what thier talking about as they have all done it themselves so can offer first hand advice. Yeah everything is booked, land in Sydney on the 19th July! So excited!

Hi Lou

U have been busy, that flight price is fantastic. i have also been looking at the flights and the insurance, there are so many to choose from u just dont know which is good or bad sometimes. the one that u mention sounds pretty good and covers everything that we would want, how much was that one for???
i have been looking into these harvesting jobs quite alot, and there are a few that you can sort out from here b4 u go, i guess we just need to decide where we are going to go to, and what we fancy doing. By the looks of it and what i have read it is easier work if the fruits grow on trees as u r not having to kneel on the floor or be bending down for the whole day, which sounds absolutley back breaking and no fun at all. arrgghh!!!
Also are we going to go straight there from the airport or are we going to have a week off and party like teenagers then get down to the hard

Just on my way out with my mum and sis for an early mothers day surprise, we is going shopping in Leeds then going to see the Calendar Girls at Leeds Grand Theatre (Total Girly Day )

Did you have a great nite out for your bday???

Will catch up with you more tomoz, xx

Morning Gail. Hope you enjoyed ypur girlie day. My birthday was fabulous thanks, got pretty drunk but really enjoyed it. The insurance i found was about £150 i think. Need to read through the small print but sounds ok. Have been recommended Insure and go, apparently they're reasonable and good cover. I think at least a week or two should be spent seeing the best of Sydney ;-) I fancy a bit of a holiday before starting hard labour ha. Sunbathing, partying, seeing the sights. Plus time to sort out tax number, bank etc. Have you decided not to do ozintro week then? I'm working today but finish at five so will speak later if you're about. Have a good day, Lou xx

Have you not thought about doing the Oz Experience?

100. Posted by Louise80 (Full Member 106 posts) 6y

I thought about Oz Experience but I don't know if I'll end up with that or just buying a greyhound ticket or similar. A friend of mine who travelled Oz two years ago didnt recommend Oz Exp, but I think I'll just sort that when I get there. Need to buy my ticket first!
