hi
i am a boy live in xi'an china which maybe the oldest city in china give you some help
First xi'an is not very dirty and here have not so many people likes BJ or shanghai maybe it is cheapest and worth while for you study chinese you must ask me why ? the reason is : BJ is the capital of china many thing was changesing
as a big international city the really chinese culture is destroied but xi'an is more purity than others and here is more cheaper than other city in china out of hotel and if you life likes me you merely need 70RMB (maybe 10$) a week and you
hostel is not a good idea than rent a small house youself xi'an is better than BJ in weather sanitation and consumption ,and rent a house maybe cost you 40$ t~ 100$ differf
second: most of xi'an people using really chinese than dalian shanghai and qingdao ,in beijing many people don't speaking in criterion chinese too
if you get here you will find the really china and pay less than any other city in china
so , hope you have good travel in china or even in xi'an i hope you will choose xi'an if you come you can E-mail me i can give all of my help

Hello chaps. I'm going to be in China for 1 month-6 weeks over the summer and I was thinking of doing a short course (maybe 1 or 2 weeks) to maybe learn enough to buy train tickets/get hotel rooms/understand some bits of menus etc. Does anyone know whether there are such courses (where, when, $), or is it ridiculous to try to learn any Chinese in such a short space of time?

Many thanks

I totally disagree that Chinese culture is destroyed in Beijing and many people don`t speak standard Chinese here. Boy, don`t over-comment things you are not that familiar with. (Hope I didn`t make the same mistake here).

Are there no schools/universities in Qingdao that would teach Beijing accent Chinese?
