Hi,
My husband and I are planning our trip to Europe and are having a hard time deciding on destinations, timelines, and transportation.

June 15th: Day1: arrive in Amsterdam, stay for 2 days
Day 3: Train to Paris
Day 5: Nice
Day 7: Train to Barcelona
Day 10: Monaco (?)
Day 12: Switzerland for 3 days
Day 15: Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome for 7 days)
Day 22: Fly to Santorini (?) stay for 4 days
Day 27: Fly to Croatia (4 days)
Day 31-40: Hungary, Czech Rep, Austria (don't know what to choose??? or skip them, and stay longer in western Europe)
Day 41: Germany
Day 46: Home (Jul 31st)

How far in advance should we book accommodations/train/flights? We like sponteneity, and don't want to book things too early in case there are beautiful, time-consuming things that we want to check out while travelling...

Also, we know that it's going to be HOT in Italy/Greece in July...should we start our trip in the south? Flights from Canada to Amsterdam/Munich are the cheapest, so that's why are plans were originally set-up like that....

What type of shoes would you recommend? I don't know if I can bare to wear hiking shoes in the heat....

Monaco is next to Nice, so you need to change the order ( about 5kms). Make sense! As for Hungary and Czech Republic, I wouldnt miss these two places for the life of me. Prague and Budapest are fantastic places and certainly cheaper than any western europe countries. You have the time to do it and I would pounce on that. As for doing things advance, obviously its summer and is best to do to get a cheaper price. As for trains, in Budapest and Prague, its cheaper to buy at station unless you find something on net that you cant say no to ( say 29 euros per direction).

As for shoes, just wear runners (nike or reebok). simple enough.

Also, one day in Monaco is all you need unless you are rich. A day trip from Nice is sufficient.
