Hi Hayley, don't worry it's not sad that you haven't been abroad yet! Like stoa said, you have your whole life to go travelling. As you're new to travelling, for a first trip I would stick to Europe and travel to a few major cities with some friends. After this you would have gained some experience and more confidence and then you could venture further afield on your own. Do you have any countries that you're really interested in seeing? Claire

Ahhhh this brings back so many nice memories!!!! :)

I have to say I second Hollywood/LA being nothing special. Expensive, and as LA is basically 12 million people crammed into a small area surrounded by mountains who all drive cars, the air is a bit nasty. If you are going to go for the States, I've heard San Francisco is supposed to be nice although I'm more of an expert on the South and the East Coast; that said New York, Key West(Florida), Mystic(Connecticut), Salem(Massachusetts), Asheville(North Carolina), and Savannah(Georgia) is a nice list of some obvious and not so obvious places that are good to start with.

Of course, as you're one of the lucky ones who can get working holiday visas, I'm surprised Australia and New Zealand haven't been mentioned! If you put together a round the world trip especially, then something like that would give you a chance to replenish some funds while you're away, not to mention be a fabulous life experience!

Im 21 years old, never been abroad before, i know its sad haha! Ihave so many places i want to visit, yet i have no idea where to start. Ive considered both travelling alone and with friends, but to be honest most of my friends have responsibilitys such as children etc which stops them travelling. I would love it if some of you could give me any advice and tips on where to start.

Thank yooooooooooou =)

Hi Hayley!!.. Don worry ..You are only 21 years old and you have lot of time to enjoy traveling!! Tell me where you live and I could suggest some wonderful tourist destination based on that... Feel free to travel alone and you will get to know new travelers. This gives you nice chance to mingle with them and you can make them as your travel group or travel partner..

It seems to be a good Idea Isn't it ;)

it is not that late ı had my first abroad trips alone when I was 17. you can start with mediterraninan. it is cozy and safe. start with spain, france, italy, greece, turkey.

then you can take your time in north: germany, holland, czech republic

after some time try usa ( it is too big maybe you will split it to 2)

then you will become an experienced explorer and after that you are free to see any spot on earth; south east asia to russia, madagascar to australia.

Sorry for the late reply, havent been able to get online for a while, thanks to everyone for the advice and tips, i really cant wait to get started, a lot of my friends have commitments over here in England, but im thinking maybe if i go alone it will encourage me to speak to other travellers and people that live in various countrys which i see only to be a good thing. I guess now its time to come up with a plan and get to work on organising my trip.
