Just wondering if anyone could give advice please as to how long you would usually stay in chiang mai for? and also if there are other areas of northern thailand that are really worth visiting in my time there?
Only i have a 30 day visa and i think it would be a shame to only use a small amount of that time before heading to Laos!
I will be travelling with my friend and we are both very open to options, such as visiting touristy areas but also treks, village stays, courses....etc etc, so any advice given would be greatly appreciated!
A week in Chiang Mai. Join a 3 day tour trekking tour, 1 day in the city (preferable during the weekend). They have the best night market in Asia during the weekend night (might be Sunday).
And zipline for a day...
If you are intending to utilise a 30 day visa in northern Thailand only then I would suggest 7-10 days in Chiang Mai, including 1 day visiting Doi Suthep, say 3-4 day trekking tour, 1 day trip elephant farm/river rafting, few days relaxing in CM, then visit Mae Hong Son, Pai, Chaing Mai, Chiang Khong and then enter Laos. Plenty of info on various websites regarding these destinations eg apart from Travellerspoint, see Tripadvisor, Virtual Tourist, Travelfish etc.
