Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean going to backpack through south america, but to little time?

Hey, i am hoping to backpack through south america from chile - venezuela, but is it too short time with 4 months? Because i was hoping to also see cuba for at least 2 - 3 weeks, since this is my favorite country.

How long would it take just with the bus part, and where should i REALLY go? Im hoping to take least possible flights, since this is really expensive..

Yeah ofcourse, i was thinking about chile (santiago) - argentina (mendoza, buenos aires) - (uruguay, not sure) - brazil - (paraguay) - bolivia - peru - ecuador - colombia and then venezuela.. but maybe it's to heavy for 3 months only?

So, then, actually have THREE months in South America...

It's plenty of time. Even enough time if you go from Shitiago to Argentina to see what is there. And even the bus trip over the Andes makes that journey worth your time.

Sounds like an amazing trip Rebbecca, I think three months gives you plenty of time. My flat mate did three months last year and managed to do Chili, Argentina, Peru and Venezuela and saw everything that she wanted to. I think doing Cuba at the end is a fantastic idea, it is one of my favourite places in the world too. I hope it all goes well for you. Claire

Will you be coming to Venezuela from Colombia on Bus? Because that may be a little dangerous. Depending on what spots are you willing to see here in Venezuela I might be able to help you with.

Im sorry for not answering, been really busy with work.

Anyway, im not going to cross from colombia to venezuela with bus, because so many have told me that this since it's to dangerous.

Well, i was thinking maybe to spend about 2 days in santiago, then 2 weeks in argentina, because everyone tells me that this offers alot. Maybe 2 weeks in brazil, some days in La paz, and going to the salt mine for some days.. then peru for about 1-2 weeks (because going to see machu pichu and cuzco here, and maybe some other cities aswell, many haven't recommended me Lima, or should i visit for some days there aswell?).
Ecuador - i was thinking about galapagos,so that would be about 1 week at least? Or how long should i visit this?
And then colombia for maybe 1 week, and im not sure about venezuela yet, because i really want to go to middle america too a little, for some days..

So this, i just did this in my head right now, i haven't been planning especially much lately, so not sure yet. But do anyone have any recomandation for what to see, and if somebody have done this route before, then for how long?

How much should be enough for this trip? I thought i would have plently of money, but now i see i don't get so much :(

Thanks for all the replies! really apreciate it! :)
