Ferry from Spain to Morocco

Travel Forums Africa and The Middle East Ferry from Spain to Morocco

I will be travelling from Spain to Morocco next month via ferry into Tangiers. We (two adults and two children) need to meet up with a group in Fes and wanted to take a train from Tangiers. Anyone have advice for us? Specifically is the ferry/train combo do-able in 1 day or should we plan to spend the night in Tangiers and then take the train the following day to Fes?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can get a fast ferry from Tarifa in Spain to Tangiers. It's only 30 minutes and cheaper than from Algeciras. The train from Tangiers to Fez is about 5 hours and I have done it in a day. It depends more on your kids.

Once you come out of the ferry port keep on the left hand side of the gate and follow the pavement. There is a direct local bus to the train station which is fairly new and on the edge of town. I can't remember what number bus it is so ask, but it is a lot of fun and Moroccans love kids so you will have them entertained all the way. Just ask. Either that or get a petit taxi. It won't cost more than about 20 or 30 dirham.

If you want to break up the journey you could also consider staying the night in Tarifa, which is a lovely place. It is so small that it takes only five or ten minutes or so to walk from the centre to the ferry.

Enjoy. It's the best way to travel to Morocco.

The train Tangier/Fez is good, with compartments and a trolley with goodies for the kids. Dont forget to visit Meknes, a carriage ride with a rubber-shod horse around the town stopping at the sites(a huge stables for hundreds of horses, dungeons, sultans palace, mosques, WOW!) was very good value, then there are great places to see out of town, hire a private car--
