Travel Forums Europe Flight cost to Norway (Or Sweden) this summer! Help!

I am new to this forum, but I am struggling to make a decision and was wondering if somebody on here could help point me in the right direction.

I am Norwegian, but a student in the US. (Idaho) and am looking to go back to Norway for 4 weeks this summer. I am a little bit flexible, as I can travel between May 21 and July 5th. The high season tends to be middle of June, when I have traveled before.

Last time I went I got a round trip ticket for $700, which was amazing. I wasn't counting on that again, but budgeted for $1000 a ticket, but hoping for lower. I have to fly out of Salt Lake City, which is usually more expensive.

My problem is that the tickets this year seems to be extraordinarily expensive. Expedia won't go lower then $1250, and that is in May. (Which is low season). I have spent hours searching, and today I found tickets on vayama SLC - OSL for $1036. US Airways has them for $996, but won't let me book online. (I haven't tried calling them.)

Question is, should I book this? Should I wait and hope for lower? I realize there are fewer flights now with the recession, and I am not sure how much the airlines are willing to cut their losses. I read that the most common time to book is 4 months before and I am now 10 weeks out for when we would leave...should I keep waiting? I can't really afford more then $1000, but there is 5 of us traveling so even a $50-100 drop would save us a lot of money.

Please, any comments, questions, musings are appreciated. I am at quite a loss at this.....

Thank you so much!

Is there a different, more trafficked airport you could travel from? I was looking on Momondo and Kayak, and the first returned probably that same price you found using US Airways. Kayak was another 3-400 USD more expensive for their cheapest option...

If you can't really afford more than 1000, I'd probably go ahead and lock in the prices with the US Airways option. There is an off chance that prices come down, but a bigger chance they go up this close to departure :(

I also checked ex-Philly (maybe you can get a cheap flight to Philly with a low cost carrier?) using Momondo and there is a direct flight with US Airways which looks like it can be had for around 800 USD.

Try different dates - I found DEN-ARN to be the best with 5/25 outbound and 7/1 inbound quite good

(late June inbound is the problem - very expensive)

I repeat, avoid US Airways (America's worst)
