HI ;)
I'm planning on starting my trip in May 2004. Sarting in

London - J'berg-Bombay overland to Goa fly to Dehli overland/fly to Katmandu -trivandrum- Columbo (sril lanka)-Bangkok overland to Ho Chi Minh fly - Perth overland to Sydney fly-Auckland-fiji -LA- UK

This is the plan so far probably for around 9-10 months, if anyone has any tips about my itinary eg if flights between Bombay-Katmandu are cheap or any suggested routes for any of the overland travel, i would really appreciate your comments.

A little about me i am 25 and work as a mental health nurse in th NHS, i've been dreaming about doing a stint of travelling since a young age and have now been nursing for a couple of years so have something established to come back to (not neccesarily a good thing.... i might not want to come back! ) So i will have saved for a year by the time i go, i'm starting to plan a few bits, so came across this website and thought i'd ask for your perils of wisdom!

I am both excited and nervous at the prospect of doing this alone, so any positive "i've done it....it's a breeze" type comment would also go down a treat.

I doubt i can be of much use in the league of experienced traveller, but if anyone is visitng the UK i may be able to be of some help, particularly London.
I look forward to chatting to you

Hi Claire - I'm doing something similar to you - Oz, NZ, Fiji, Cook islands then LA.
Glad to hear of more 20-somethings taking career breaks (although technically my careers hasn't really started but whatever), hope you have a great time.
I'll be mostly on my own too, meeting various friends along the way but no actual travel companion - am really not worried, sure I'll meet lots of people along the way and it frees you up to do exactly what you want when you want, you don't have to compromise for others!
