Hey TPer's! Im sure this has happened to some of you guys out there! Have any of you ever meet another TPer at the airport/train station/port?? wherever when you were travelling without actually planning to meet up! U know, like bump into someone, find out there name and then realise, thats who it is in reality!!!

I never have! but it would be such a surprise i guess after knowing so many of you virtually!

would be interested to hear your 'meetings' !

Hmmm, that would mean I would have to know people's names as opposed to just their handles, and I will admit that I don't usually bother looking up people's names. Perhaps we should have some sort of signal so we can recognize each other in airports and the like. Or we can all buy TravellersPoint luggage tags for our backpacks!

To be honest, i've no idea. I meet loads of people, and could well have met a fair few of you, but just wouldn't know. It's the same with something like the ThornTree. Unless you meet people by arrangment or at a meet etc, it's not always that likely to come up in casual conversation.
Thorntree in particular is much worse - there are 200,000 odd users, and most of them get around a heck of a lot. It took me over 18mths and sheer luck to even discover my best mate is on there, let alone that he's quite prolific and somebody i'd talked to a few times there - I just didn't connect the handle to the person. I'm convinced that a load of other people i know/have met have been members without us both realising, and the same is probably true here.

I love the idea of a secret signal, BUT on the proviso that it is really, really stupid, and you have to use it ALL the time. Comedy value alone.

As far as i know, i've only met 2 of you TPers to date, and one of them wasn't a member at the time.

See, there you go. I had no idea that you were on Thorntree, Gelli. And of course, given the size of that place, unless we happened to frequent the same branches, we would probably never run into each other.

That's one of the great things about Travellerspoint. It's large enough that you can get some decent advice, but still small enough that it has a sense of community.

Not yet, but one day maybe ;) Great idea on the luggage tags Greg! We actually had designed some earlier this year, but just never got around to printing it, etc.. Now we're talking about things like backpack covers (imagine a big TP logo on your bag when it comes off the luggage belt ;)) and the likes.

Babe,

How long are you in Sydney for and what area are you in? Being just before Christmas, I'm fairly busy, but I'm sure I could find a spare lunchtime or evening for a quick get together.

Peter, i think thats a great idea - the luggage tags, or even the backpack cover would go well i reckon. That way we'll def be meetin up wiv each other more often !

Cheers - more suggestions and you guys will soon have your own business going, selling merchandise! Great to be in it i guess ! Keep it coming!

I'll be the one with a pink carnation in my lapel and a violin case.
