Hi Lisa,

I've not been to Medan yet but for hotels, I would normally check http://www.asiarooms.com/.
I use it for my Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan hotel bookings.

Happy travels..
cheers.... Yatina

What is cheap for you? RP 50.000? RP 200.000,
What's cheap for me (RP 50.000), is maybe too dodgy for you...

well i don't want dodgy, somewhere clean and not to wake up with bed bug bites.. somewhere you'd recommend, no more then 200,000 Rp i think.

any ideas?

Lisa_Tom,

The best place to stay is Blue Angel in Medan- check out Scott McIntyre's fantastic accomodation website for Sumatra.
Here is the link to Blue Angel.

I've been to Medan a few times. The best thing there is the road out of town. I have only stayed there once, arriving very late, and shared my bed with lots of bed bugs. Very little to buy there, or do there. There are different classes of buses from Medan. Some are OK, some are the pits, and are packed.

Tried Lake Toba? It's a small island and noticeably cooler than the rest of Indonesia. Carolina Hotel is good though a bit expensive.

Hi,
Honestly nothing wrong with Medan, stayed there quite a few times.
Great food and over the time I have made some great friends there.
Blue Angel is very clean and comfortable and definitely NO bed bugs.
They are doing a great business and last year bought the building next door to increase their capacity.
