Hi everyone,

I have just joined the forum as I have had a spur of the moment decision to go to Australia around August/September time on my own for a working holiday. I discovered the OzIntro website earlier and I think it would be a good idea to go with them. I am really scared of doing something like this on my own as I have never looked into it, but if I don't know it now I will continue to put it off and never do it.

If any of you guys are looking for someone to travel with send me a message.

Look forward to hearing from you :)

Hi Charlotte, I think there are a lot of us in the same boat who are scared to do it alone - I certainly am! I think I have decided to go with Real Gap (similar to ozintro) as they offer some other programmes in other countries that I quite fancy doing next year after Oz. How long do you plan on going away for, and do you know where you want to go?

Hi Zoe,

I think I'm planning to go for the year and possibly spend a month in NZ in the middle to do the Kiwi Experience. A couple of my friends did this a few years ago and they had an amazing time so I would like to do it. Other than that, I'd like to see a bit of Oz whilst I'm out there along with work, maybe in a few bars or something.

Have you travelled before? I will take a look at the website that you are going with and see what they offer too, so thanks for the advice on that one! How long are you planning on going for?

Hi Charlotte

No I haven't been travelling before, i've wanted to do this (eg Oz) since I left uni but couldn't find anyone to do it with me and wasn't confident enough to go by myself until now! I'm hoping to go 6th September until May/June next year but want to stop in Thailand on the way back for a couple of weeks, but i'm being bridesmaid at the end of June 2011 so have to be back by then! So really i'm hoping to move round the country and see as much as I can and work a bit along the way as a bit of extra money.

Hey! I have actually moved out to Sydney during the Winter season. Right now the weather is getting more and more beautiful every day! I am so excited for sunny weather! Coming out here alone is a major step, but the best way to live life is to face it! Live it like you'd want it to be told. Sydney is worth it!! It's an amazing city, with welcoming people from all around the world. I've been here since June 2010, and I already call this city my home.

Suggestions- hostels are just as expensive as sharing a flat... if you plan on being here for some time, I highly recommend sharing a flat. My first month here, I shared a double room with my best mate, and spent 400-600 a week on a hostel between the two of us. Our room was so crowded after we opened our luggage!! It was horrific. We would have to share the kitchen with everyone else in the hostel, so expect to schedule your meals. Also, the kitchen closes early- I work, I get out at maybe 10:30, kitchen closed at 10... So did the dining area... If you find a flat, there is a higher chance there is a washing unit as well, so less expenses there.

When you get here, there are a lot of airport shuttles. The train is just as efficient, and much cheaper. Just have an idea of where you're going, and ask one of the employees behind the window which line to take and what stop to get off at. They see many travelers on a daily basis, I promise you they will have an answer to your question, don't be afraid to ask for directions. If you plan on staying at a hostel, there are often a lot near train stations. Especially in the Cross. Victoria Street is filled with hostels, and the Station is right there next to it. With a lift as well! So don't worry about lugging your huge bags up stairs!!

Enjoy your trip and I hope this kind of helped you out!! Sorry about the length, haha... Just giving you an idea of what to expect!;)

Hey!

Just read your post. I just arrived in Sydney two weeks ago - only staying here for another month before I go onto the East Coast but well up for meeting mates and someone to do some sightseeing with. Travelling alone until a friend joins me in January.

Am a 27 year old gay lad from Ireland.
