I'll be visiting Croatia in a couple of weeks and wanted some reccomendations on great islands or places on the beach to visit. Hoping to uncover a few gems.
I'll be visiting Dubrovnik and Zagreb for sure.
I read on another thread others mentioning Split, Hvar, and Zadar as well as well as less travled places of Makarska, Brac, and Bol.
Any other personal experiences that you all would mind sharing?
Everything depends on your interests. I would summarize for you like this:
Best beaches: Sakarun (island Dugi otok), Bol (island Brac), Lubenice (island Cres), Vis, Zrce (island Pag), Brela, Primosten, Mali Losinj, Tucepi, Brsec.
For historical and arhitectural monuments: Dubrovnik, Trogir, Zadar, Korcula, Rab, Split, Sibenik, Pula.
Great nature places: Kornati islands, Plitvice lakes, Paklenica, Krka river
Rafting, adventures, climbing: Zrmanja river rafting, Paklenica, Pasman island tours
Nightlife and Parties: Novalja Zrce, Hvar, Petrcane (garden fest. and soundwave fest.), Makarska
Small places with authentic mediterranean atmosphere: Komiza, Primosten, Rovinj, Omis, Rab, Korcula, Stari grad.
I think Hvar is pretty nice. The best way I have seen this described, is in this line from an nytimes article - "YOU will cry when you see it. Bring tissues. You will need them." And of course, they mean because of the beauty of the island
Its a beautiful island, lots of vineyards and lavender fields. Lots of adventure sports as well. -snip-
