Happiness Thailand paradise so long as "you avoid dodgy areas".

Kind of catchy isn't?
D'you think it'll bring "em in?

or how about...

"Amazing Thailand! - who needs insurance?" - just "avoid dodgy areas".

It's people who ask questions like "Is it safe?" that are at risk.

How would they know if they didn't ask?

the people asking don't live in Thailand they don't get the local news.
The news they get is often sketchy or downright wrong.

Unfortunately although I don't think that Thailand at present is particularly "unsafe" I can't se why anyone would want to come here with the current mess in Bkk.

The situation is STILL volatile and it is showing signs of spreading.
Other groups - multicolored and yellow are joining the fray and the govt is subservient to the army.

anyone coming here will be spending half their time trying to work out where is and isn't safe, what route they should rake and how can you relax if you think that the airport might be occupied at any moment?

All the above is very low risk at present but who wants even to think about it on HOLIDAY????

That's longer than a month from now. I hope I could tell you what will happen then, but the thing is ... I don't even know what will happen and what they will do tomorrow.

However, as I told above (28 Apr 10, 00:04), so far, there problem still remain here and there in Bangkok, but in other provinces, lives still goes on OK. The question would be:

- Are you here for shopping in those high-end department stores like, Siam Center, Paragon, Emporium, Central World? If the answer is NO, you life here will not have anything to do with those protesters.
- Are you here to stay in 5 to 6-star hotel like Grand Hyatt Erawan or Centara? If not, why bother going to that area?

In any cases, I know it has something to do with feeling and impression, and not just whether the trip could go smoothly or not. So, it is your choice whether or not you feel like sticking with the plan. I mean, may be it's better that you judge it from your feeling on whether you care or not about what those groups are doing in their own homeland, while you enjoy your time looking at something else more impressive than what they are doing.

Anyway, if things get spread in other area or provinces, I will keep people posted here, OK?

THe multicolored shirt appear to be having a demo in Pattaya and the Redshirts tooo 0 didn't look big or aggrssive though.

Before Song khran the Redshirts took action in Udon thani........I would expect smaller demos in support of all factions to sprout up around the country.

the New Year hols are over now and people need to go home so they will demonstrate nearer home probably organised by flying squads from each faction.

:)

People who have choices, or if they don't have to live here, may consider whether they need or want to be here or not.

For me, I have no choice, I have to live here, and i choose to live it happily. So far, it works though.

:)

Thanks for all the info so far guys. I'm going to keep monitoring the situation up until maybe 2 weeks before I leave. It's great to hear of the situation from locals as I'm always wary of the media and their scaremongering!

So at the minute I'm planning on going ahead with my plans as normal: fly into Bangkok, stay 1/2 nights on Khao San Road and then heading north to Chaing Mai and then returning south to the islands. However I'll be keeping tabs on the situation worsening and will have some back up plans just in-case! Seems the logical thing to do at this moment in time!
